Who Knows What Lurks in the Den
Life with parrots can be silly! My small parrot, Dr. Who is too smart for his own good! He has learned to open his birdcage which requires pulling a bar to the side, then lifting it up. He has done this several times, then the door swings open. I was starting to knit a wrap for my sister, which I bought cashmere for. I made the swatch, and then put it in my basket, and went to bed. A couple of hours later, I heard rustling in the den, papers being moved about. But no loud sounds, no sounds of objects being moved-- what could it be? A went down the stairs, and heard a little voice: "I'm Dr. Who !"--- but it wasn't coming from the birdcage, but somewhere else in the den. I went into the den, snapped on the light, and there he was, sitting in my knitting baskey, nesting on cashmere ! Well, I guess that beats a hard wooden perch any day. Dr. Who makes comments that many times make sense--- when he sees the news commentator Peter Jennings on TV, he yells "Yeah, right!" I have the bad habit of yelling at the news (so now I just check Reuters on the computer , the newspaper, or PBS-- the flashy/glitzy noises and graphics distract me, and I like to hear 2 sides of a story! ) but if Peter Jennings appears in a short prootional ad for the news, the bird still may pipe up "yeah, right" when it suits him. Both parrots love Italian food-- we give them just a little bit, but they seem to enjoy it! Mamma is a "bird brain".....
Vash:I'M NOT GONNA TOUCH THAT ONE
WITH A TEN FOOT POLE!
I love watching the birds outside the kitchen, feeding and watching the ducks, and the parrots. Tone I am watching the sunset which is softer in colour tonite, like a watercolor, rather than the riotous colours of a month ago. It is dusk and stars will be coming out soon.

I really enjoy reading everyone's posts, seeing the art, and reading comments. There are a lot of people with a great sense of humour, and that really makes my day. I guess that my writing tends to be on the serious side a lot-- I wish I could write many more funny and creative things. But I guess it takes all flavors to fill the Ice Cream store of Life.

Love and peace to everyone. Friends truly are the best part of life!

Caution: Randon Thoughts on the Loose
Ah.. it's Sunday morning, and I have the day to wander. Right now I am just sitting with a warm cup of spiced chai, in my beloved nightshirt, with my knitting basket next to the chair. Knitting for me is so very calming. When I am really worried or angry, those needles go a mile a minute. I'm working on blankets, and have some other things to complete (2 shirts) Does anyone else like to knit? I am curious........... The paperwork is beginning to get caught up-- it's strange that 2 days off generates such a mess! From everyone's comments, I am in august company when it comes to being swamped with paper!
This post is disjointed as my brain has decided to continue sleeping. Stayed up last night to watch anime, and it was so good!

Wolf's Rain is so beautiful, and I love Yoko Kanno's music! Saw Rave Master for the first time, and I like the art a lot. What made me laugh loudly was Megas XLR-- it's a mech anime, but it is set in New Jersey, ,and has quite a few funny lines. It's worth checking out for a laugh.

Well, time to get out into some sunshine-- I send love, peace, biscotti and donuts to my friends, and a basket of laughter!

Yo ho ho and a bucket of ice....
My office is a definite sign of Entropy reigning supreme. It is a small office, so things have to be "creatively" filed. I have many ducks in the room that people have given me-- a duck pillow, wooden ducks, a duck motion sensor (the battery is out during the day, but it was given to me so that I would be safe working late and would know if anyone was in the area), a duck puppet, and of course pictures of ducks (and eagles and 2 wooden eagles).. and my penguin, who sits next to the monitor. So, it is not the typical office by any means. But I feel strange sitting with a bucket of ice at my feet. It is for my wrist, and back of hand-- have to ice it a couple of times a day. The ice helps. The hand therapist gave me some suggestions how to make an adapter for the pencil and pen , but wants to re-evaluate for adaptive equipment. Its a nuisance!

A more positive note is the persimmon tree appears to have 10 baby persimmons-- so far none have fallen off! I'll have to take a picture. They started off as leatherery green appearing flowers, and now are little green balls. They're good in breads and cookies, but don't ever eat them green! I did once by accident. BLEYECH!
Thanks Milkycat for you drawings, and to Panda for your warm support. Heya Yami Loni ,Cuteanuki, an dTotalAnimeGurl! Keep everything flying Silver Falcon, and to Thrush Battersea a great weekend. A big CONGRATULATIONS to Ozymandiusjones for graduation. ::tosses confetti:: Please visit to wish her well!

Wishing the Easter morning wildflowers in the canyon to all my friends. Catch you on the otherside of starshine!

?
There are just sometimes I feel as if I'm floating in neutral, a strange sensation. Things are not terrible, but they are not good either. I just add that up to being tired-- caught "night Patrol" again when I had not quite caught up on sleep from Vegas. Next weekend will be a homebody kind of weekend. I do need time to just putter around, make biscotti, knit. I was able to make a pair of striped socks for my Dad and gave them to him in Vegas last week. I'm knitting a blanket now. Still having trouble with my hand-- it was getting better, but now grabbing a penicil etc moving my thumb gets very bad, and my wrist is stiff. I keep running from the office to get ice , that seems to help the most. I hope the hand therapist can help me to be able to rig something to hold a pencil- that would help). Sorry this is in the "cranky" mood== I never get used to Night Patrol though I have been doing that for years. (No one likes it.)

On a lighter note, Thank you Panda for the weirdest outfit award! I still have that curtain piece in my garage. When I do strange things, they are usually beauties.

Right noew, ,I think I will go back to a nap, and prepare for tomorrow. Love and peace for my friends. Catch you on the other side of starshine! zzzzzz---

Facing the Music--
I really appreciate the welcome back, it's a good feeling that there are people to share things with, and get great warm fuzzies from. ::big huggles to friends::
Las Vegas is a definite universe in itself, and I feel as if I came out of a time warp! A bit strange to return to work. Already the heat is beginning to come, and the office got a bit warm. That's the time when the paperwork rears up like Godzilla, stomping, smashing everything in sight. A feeling inside says "RUN FOR THE HILLS-- IT'S ALIVE, IT'S GONNA GET US-- OMG I'M DROWNING".(LOL) Why is it that when I go on a vacation, the one paper on my desk insidiously grows and grows--- when will it go on a vacation ! (there's an idea). It's always hard to make the switch back to full work gear after a couple of days off. Unfortunately, it feels like my brain wants to stay on vacation a little longer, and won't wake up.

Any suggestions as to who can tame the paperwork monster, and how could this be done?

Oh, well-- on comes the harness, and I have to get my feet marching instead of tap dancing.

I wish a beach of gentle, refreshing waves for my friends, with energy and creativity overflowing! Catch you on the other side of the racing moon!

The City Without Clocks
There is definitely one thing that is hard to get in Las Vegas-- and that is sleep. ! I wish I had taken my 35 MM camera to get more night shots, but the digital is extremely light, and we did a lot of walking. I was amazed by the New York/ New York casino--- like a little bit of home to me as I grew up on the East Coast. Penn Station, Statue of Liberty, brownstones, re-created to scale! Even the Brooklyn Bridge! Dad and I had a great time. We saw comedians and laughed for 2 hours!. There was a parrot show with a singing parrot (if Dr. Who learned to do that , it would be time to leave town!), acrobats and gymnasts performing on an elevated stage very close to the roulette tables. Bells, lights, music, constant buzz of conversation, stacco bursts of laughter and clapping. A definite sensory overload! The clothing people wore reminded me at times of Halloween and/or cosplay. But I had a really good time. Dad has a great sense of humour, and we went everywhere. There is a lot to do that does not have to involve gaming--- but yes, Mamma did go gaming with Dad. The Peanut Gallery is restless--- I played craps (dice)(*blush*), and I won $40- I guess statistics does come in for something. The casino interiors are huge-- and no windows. There are no clues as to time of day, everything is open 24/7. Like California, the night winds in the desert are very cool. When you can see a sunset, and then the riot of colours in neon, that dance, and blink, you don't want to sleep because you don't want to miss anything. But Las Vegas is also a city of paradox but there's another time to write about that. Well, it's time to turn in for Mamma== another work day tomorrow.

I send the Mardi=Gras-like excitement, with cheers and impromptu dances, and little surprizes around each corner from Las Vegas to my friends. Tonite the moon is full, with a silver ring-- and the moon appears to have a smile. Good night to all.

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
Well< I had been eager to learn how to put pictures on my site to share the canyon. That's what I hope to do today-- I love walking this section of the canyon-- it's hard to believe a shopping plza is shortly below the canyon, and a housing development at thie summit.

Well, another working day tomorrow. I send a sweet refreshing night to my friends.
Love and Peace !

It's Just Another Day..

Look left, ,look right... Is it safe out there? Plz tell me there is not some other "surprize" out there for me..?
Vash: "don't sweat it Mamma, if you close your eyes, then Trouble can't see you and it will leave you alone."
Mamma: Isn't that the other way around?
Vash : Yea Mamma, just like I said.

It's easy to get stuck on stuff going wrong-- if I stay in one place something is going to happen. But, I guess it's what I do afterward. If I can find something amusing, then whatever can't hurt me. when i'm at work, after work I go down to the duck pond--- there are baby ducks and I watched them try to scale a rock about 4 times their size. They kept popping up, higher each time, until almost unbelieveably they made it up the incline !
Thanks to all who gave me good ideas for Las Vegas. I guess it is coming in the nick of time-- I have been doing a lot of paperwork, and tonite is "Night Patrol" again. Not too bad with being able to have time to write and read everyone's posts. Just a little short of creativity today (The Dreaded Dim Bulb Syndrome)--- time to turn into a turnip!

Wishing watercolor days with ice cream breezes for my friends ! Catch you on the otherside of starshine.

The Little Car that Wouldn't
Well , the time has come to announce the name of my little car: Tomato ! (thanx Ozy J). Yesterday, I wanted to make ketchup out of Tomato. Last week I had some work done. Yesterday I was hurrying to work (had a busy schedule). A light comes on CHECK GAUGE, then Tomato lost power while on the freeway. We glided off near the railroad where the freight cars go. Well, Mamma usually has planned for disasters-- but panic, could not find the cell phone. Then, found the cell phone but it was dead!. Starts to rain a bit, and the wind rocks the car side to side. I walked a quarter mile to a call box and they said 20min. 2 1/2 hours later they towed Tomato-- when I looked for my AAA auto club card, I discovered I left my wallet home-- I did have photo ID from work. I began to think-- the engine seized, or maybe the electrical system is fried, how will I afford a new car---- why is this happening to me AGAIN (sounds familiar--- just a real good Vash tantrum !)After wasting most of a day, at least it was only fuel injectors, and crud in the gas tank and filter-- easily fixed. That was a relief, but after a good shake.

Well, break time is closing, and I have to get a bucket of ice for my wrist. It's starting up again, but at least overall a little better than when it started.

I send my friends a meadow , a big picninc blanket and basket of goodies, to enjoy a clear, sunny day.

May 29, 30, 31 I will be in Las Vegas taking my Dad around to see the sights. I've been told that there is a wonderful electric light parade at night, and a bird show! And of course, Hoover Dam --Dad is a retired engineer, and we used to go to engineering society tours (no, I am not an engineer, but I did go to an engineering college-- my degree is in biology with a lot of chemistry). I love the sciences, and I'm fascinated by engineering. I'll be dropping by my friends sites a little later.

Love and Peace, donuts and biscotti!

La Dolce Vita OR......BISCOTTIS
An alternative to the ubiquitous donut, biscotti is the Italian dunking cookie-- I think Vash would like these, but nothing would ever replace donuts for Vash! Here's the recipe:

Mamma Vash's Legendary Biscotti

1/2 cup butter 3 eggs
3/4 cup sugar 1 cup nuts
3 cup flour (white)
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 tsp lemon extract
1 tab flavoring extract
(orange extract, or lemon, or
vanilla, or anise (which
tastes like licorice)

1. preheat oven to 350 F
2.beat egg whites until a bit stiff, then add sugar
3.add in yolks,flavoring extracts,softened butter beating well
4.Then add flour, baking powder, and 1 cup nuts (any kind-- walnuts or almonds work good
5. chill dough for 30 min because it will be sticky-- do not add extra flour
6.using 1/3 of the dough, you can add some "extras"--like 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips, and 1/4 cup chopped pistachios) Knead any extra ingredients into dough very well. Place a little flour on a smooth surface, and roll the dough into a cylinder 8"long, 3/4" tall.Slightly flatten cylinder into a rectangle 9" x3"x3/4",place on greased cooky sheet
7.Bake the rectangle for 20 min while you are watching some good anime.
8.remove the rectangle, allow to cool for 15 min, , then slice it at a 30-40 degree angle.each slice will be about 3/4" thick
9. place the slices on a greased cookie pan with the cut face down, and bake in oven for 15 min to toast the cookie (better for dunking, more crunchy)
Remove, allow to cook and enjoy.

Repeat steps 6-9 for the other 2/3 of the dough, and you can add about 3/4-1 cup of extra goodies to the dough for a variety of flavors from one batch. You can leave unbaked dough in the fridge for up to 2 days if you don't have the time to bake.

I hope you enjoy these.

Ozy J, I send you a day with 30h because you are always so busy!, Thrush Battersea, ,I send you snowdrop iris of purest colours, Silver Falcon, I send you the Red Tailed hawks, gliding on thermals, and watching over everyone in the canyon. Milkycat, I send you a warm private beach to stroll, Panda I send you a week of bright sun with warm- not hot_ days, TAG--I send you some cool jazz!, Last Guardian85-- I send you cool breezes that will gently toss your locks, Vashspiegel, I send you laughter for your sense of humour, Willow I send a welcome hug, Cuteanuki-- i send rainbow colours for painting, and Bali-Kitty-- I send you meadowful of flowers.

For all my friends, I wish laughter, love, and fellowship of kind hearts.

See you all on the other side of starshine!
