Aurus-kun's Periodical Anime Recommendations: May 2005

Irasshai!

Hello and welcome back to Aurus-kun's Periodical Anime Recommendations! For those of you not familiar with APAR, this is a monthly column in which I bring your attention to any little-known or un-licensed anime or manga that I am currently watching or reading.

So far this month, I haven't been terribly adventurous, so I've only got one recommendation for you. Next month I'll try to have at least two!

Sukisyo
Also known as: Suki na Mono wa Suki Dakara Shouganai ("I like what I like, so there!")
Medium: anime (based on a dating sim of the same name, as far as I know)
Availability: fansub
# Episodes: 12 released, 12 total
Genre: Shounen-ai Romance
Plot summary: Hashiba Sora has lost his memory after falling out of a fourth story window at his school. One of his friends has hooked him up with a new roommate, Fujimori Sunao, and there is instant tension between the two of them - of course, that could easily be due to Sunao's methods of "introducing" himself...
Why Aurus-kun likes it: Well, it's shounen-ai, first of all. XD So far, there have only been a few smatterings of plot, but then again, I've only seen up to episode three. The art is very cutesy, and while it's not nearly as pretty or detailed as that in Loveless or Air, it's very gentle. So far, it's been more-or-less lighthearted, with a few strange moments thrown in. I'm eager to see what happens between Sunao and Sora, and also what's going on with their alternate personalities... oooh...
Warning for those who aren't into guys kissing: Unlike some others, this show is entirely shounen-ai. In fact, I don't think you'll ever see a member of the female sex if you watch it a hundred times. Not that I mind. XD Consider yourself warned.
Other notes of interest: Sunao's voice talent was also the seiyuu of Son Goku in all the various Saiyuki animated things in existance - he can also be found in Soul Caliber 1 and 2, as Kilik, and Chaos in Xenosaga. Also, Sora's actor also played Kunisaki Yukito in Air (which I featured in the April edition of APAR), and Heero in Gundam Wing. Come to think of it, pretty much the entire cast has a very impressive resume - I suggest you take a look if you have any doubts as to the talent involved.

Well, that's all I have for you this month. If you have any suggestions for anime/manga that I have not featured and you think ought to be shared with your fellow otaku, please feel free to PM me and let me know!

Arigatou gozaimashita!

   A query.

Hello, my loves. I've got a question, and I can't believe I haven't asked this before, but I'm just so lazy and thoughtless o_o;

Anyway, it's about the banner that I have promoting gay marriage. It's right there, blinking red and white and gray, and I like it muchly. The problem is, I admit I yoinked it from one of your sites some time ago because I saw it floating around. Does anyone know who the original creator is, or if there's a website it's meant to be linked back to? If either of those is the case, I really would like to give credit where it's due.

Thanks very much for your help.

Edit: While I'm at it, what's the website for the Open Your Mind, Open Your Heart banner? I had it ages ago, but I'm a failure and I lost it o_o;

Blurb-of-the-personal-life: OhmygodsOurTownpreviewtomorrow. I actually have all of my lines learned. I'm so happy.

... but at the same time...

STRESSING. Rehearsal today went from three o'clock until seven-thirty. I've only been home for two hours, I'm absurdly tired, and I still haven't done my homework... eh... oh, well. It's just a collage thing for government class on violence in Colombia. It'll take me twenty minutes, tops.

Ja mata!

Little known fact: aurus is a horse racing nut.

So, did anybody else watch the Kentucky Derby? Heheh. I taped it. XD I'm a nerd. Anyway. What a show it was... I liked the favorite, Bellamy Road, so it's a good thing I didn't place any bets. XD

I'd like to see a Triple Crown winner this year. And you know what? Giacomo was in seventeenth place at the beginning of the race. I think he's got it in him.

Because this wasn't inspired by Loveless at all.

Hello, my loves. I come to you with... a question.

As many of you may know, I do lots of acting things, and I'm applying for a volunteer job at a nearby Renaissance Faire this summer. Actually, two of my friends and I are applying. We're going to go as a trio of singing cat-faerie-demon-things, and generally be cute.

Anyway, for my costume, I've made a cat tail and a pair of cat ears out of some faux fur. I know how I'll attach the tail - just put a loop of fabric on one end and put it on a belt - but as for the ears, I'm kind of stuck. A headband wouldn't work, because it'd be too obvious, and I'm not quite sure how I should attach them. I've been considering sewing some ribbons onto them and using those to bobby-pin them to my hair, but I'm afraid they would slide around and fall out.

So... any ideas on that? Frankly, I'm stumped.

(And for anyone who is about to suggest sewing them to my head... it's already been suggested XD And as much as I wouldn't mind having permanent kitty ears, I'd rather get them in a less painful manner. Thankyou.)

   Aurus-kun's Periodical Anime Recommendations!

Yay. Things seem to be fixed.

*hem* Anyway. I'm very-very-tired, but I have decided on a weird new venture I shall bring to my lovely otaku companions.

I bring you... Aurus-kun's Periodical Anime Recommendations! In this not-so-reliable semi-monthly column (and I will try to do at least one a month, I swear), I will bring to your attention any little-known or non-licensed anime or manga that I am currently watching or reading, in hopes of spreading the joy.

For the first-ever column, I bring you two recommendations of fluffy goodness that completely encompass the word kawaii.

Air.
Medium: anime
Availability: fansub
# Episodes: 10 (?) released, 13 (?) total
Genre: Drama (shoujo)
Plot summary: Kunisaki Yukito is a wanderer, traveling in search of a "girl in the sky" that his mother once told him about. He meets several school girls and soon discovers that many have darker lives than their cheerful demeanors reveal. I think it has something to do with angels, though I've only seen up until episode 5 and can't say much else for sure.
Why Aurus-kun likes it: IT'S CUTE. The art/animation is smooth, detailed, and beautiful (especially each character's eyes - be sure to take a good look!). The music is soft, touching, and moving. Every aspect of the show is gentle, even the presentation of the girls' darker sides - though, you will come across some moments that are a shocking contrast. Best of all... it's very, very cute. Very fluffy. For the most part - at least, as far as I have watched it - it's a "feel-good" anime. Wonderful for watching late at night with a mug of hot chocolate.
Other notes of interest: The voice actor for the main female character, Kamio Misuzu, was also the voice of Utena in Revolutionary Girl Utena, and Hikaru in Hikaru no Go.

Loveless.
Medium: anime (also a manga, which I have not read, but many of my friends have, and they enjoy it)
Availability: fansub
# Episodes: 4 (?) released, 12 (?) total
Genre: Fantasy (shounen-ai)
Plot summary: I'm not entirely sure yet, as I only just watched the first episode. As far as I can tell... Aoyaki Ritsuka is a new student with some sort of "bad record". He is confronted outside of school by a man who calls himself Soubi, who claims he is a friend of Ritsuka's brother, Seimei. Soubi is a "fighter" - apparently, a guardian sort of person who is bound to protect his master. However, it seems there is another master and fighter who have set out in search of Ritsuka, or as Soubi claims is his real name, Loveless...
Why Aurus-kun likes it: SHOUNEN-AI FLUFF. The animation is soft, with gentle colors and smooth motions. The music can be weird at points, but often is very soothing. The ending song, especially, is beautiful. There is a great air of mystery about the whole thing, and clearly there is a lot of plot going on, but I haven't watched enough to discern much. XD
Other notes of interest: It's heavy on the shounen-ai, but so far it hasn't gone into yaoi territory. In this pseudo-fantasy-modern-Japan setting, virgins have cat ears and tails (wow o_o).

Hope you've enjoyed the first round of Aurus-kun's Periodical Anime Recommendations. *bows* Arigatou gozaimashita!

   Dumb question.

Is anyone else's "Edit Profile" page dead? Suddenly I can't see anything after the first big text box, and while I can edit stuff in that, the "save changes" or whatever button is gone...

... I'm weirded out. And I REALLY want to fix stuff o_o. Gaaaaah.

help ._.

   Amityville toaster!

Some theatre people and I went out to see that Amityville movie last night. Very good stuff... but we were scared out of our wits afterwards. XD

In other news... I watched the first episode of Air today. It's.... amazingly... cute. o_o; And a little confusing. I'm gonna download and watch more, methinks.

... I want more Bleach >_> I'm buying the manga now, too, and it's quickly draining my cash...

International Day of Silence / Bannerism

Well, I suppose it's a little late to be making this announcement, but that's okay. Today (April twentieth) is the International Day of Silence, a day of awareness for gay and lesbian rights. Those who choose to participate do not speak for the entire day, in recognition of those whose voices have been silenced by hate and bigotry. Student activists in many schools throughout the world promote this day - the Gay Straight Alliance club at mine gives out stickers you can wear showing that you support gay rights, and also stickers that say "I am participating in the International Day of Silence," so people know you won't be speaking.

I tried to make it through the day without speaking, but I didn't get very far... unfortunately, it's pretty difficult to go through a conversation-based language class without talking. *grins* Anyway, I just figured I'd drop a note about that. I believe it's an important cause.

One new banner for you all, requested by Lord Darsha. Sorry for taking so long on this one - it took me forever to find a good image.

If I saw Haruko running and laughing, I'd definitely be looking for a way out...

As always, you can find this and others at the banner site.

Be sure to enter THAT's avatar contest!

Also posted at the THAT site.

Hi. Kill me now. o_o

I... actually managed to finish my massive Iliad-related assignments. One of which I stuck up in my DeviantArt gallery for no apparent reason. Of course, I do a lot of things for no apparent reason. Like eat half a grapefruit at ten in the evening.

... I love grapefruit. Have I mentioned that? Grapefruit is love.

I still haven't even started memorizing my lines for Our Town, and they're due tomorrow... I dunno. I'm not as thrilled as I was over it. I guess I'll get started on them tonight and do my best to survive the wrath of the directors tomorrow...

Anyway... this week looks like it's going to be pretty heavy in terms of schoolwork, not to mention other online things, so don't expect much from me.

To occupy your minds until I return, however, I present to you the final version of that wallpaper from earlier. It's... lyric-ed and fun, now. You're more than welcome to use it on your computer, but pleaseplease do not distribute it or spread it around. And do avoid drooling on your computer or keyboard ^_~ I find that can do some damage at times.

Love and peace, my dears. Grapefruit forever! XD
