   Hurray, life!

Hello, everybody! ... Kumoricon was a blast (I will post cosplay pictures soon; most of them are on my roommate's camera, still), and after eight months of downtime, I finally went back to kendou today. My tendonitis flared up right after I moved back to school, but it seems to have settled down again, and so far, so good - I may try staying for the advanced practices next week, if I'm still feeling okay.

Anyway, besides all of that... well, I've got the first Japanese exam of the year tomorrow, so I'm memorizing vocabulary. Also have two essays due over the next couple weeks, but one of them is Philosophy so it's basically just structured rambling, and the other is on perspectives on the caste system in India for my People/Cultures of Asia class, which looks to be a little more difficult but still should be fun.

Speaking of that... I declared my major today. I'm now officially a student of Anthropology.

Hope all of you who are in school are having a good year, and that life is going well!

   Yapping

Well, I'm all moved in at school (save for one box of my desk supplies and alarm clocks that went into storage but has yet to come out of it) and had my first day of classes. Second year Japanese and Japanese Religion were today; tomorrow is Philosophical Problems and People/Cultures of Asia (yes, guess who's gonna be an Asian Studies minor). My roommate is pretty cool, though it didn't take long for her to notice my habit of not eating and decide that she'd scold me if I skip meals. XD

Anyway, Kumoricon in less than a week! I've dropped the Baiken costume because I ran out of time, but I'll still do Walter and Sloth. My hair is dyed darker and it's been cut to the right length, and both of the costumes are essentially done except for Sloth's shoes. I was planning on doing age make-up for Walter, but I forgot to grab my stage make-up kit before I left. Ah, well - it's a fun costume, anyway.

That's about all for tonight. Hope you all enjoy the week!

Discourse ye unto the hand, for verily the face listeneth not.

This is aurus, coming to you from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Yay.

...

I bought some stuff, saw The Importance of Being Earnest, and will see Cyrano, Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde, and King John. That's.... about it. XD

Life updates: my grandmother's been moved successfully to an adult family home and might be able to return to her condo if she keeps recovering like she is. She can walk with a walker and get in and out of a car with help. Let's see... I'm heading back to school in about ten days, and KumoriCon is the first weekend in September...

I went LARPing last weekend, and it was fuckin' awesome. Seriously. There's a very long report of the whole weekend at my LiveJournal, so have fun! I'll warn you, it's very long. I met a bunch of guys who live near my school, so I'll have rides to sessions during the year. Shweet.

That's about it. Aside from the LARP, not much has happened that's worth noting. Hope all of you guys have had a good summer and that those of you going back to school can enjoy your last few days!

*searches for the fountain of youth*

One of my friends from school who is only a year older than me just got engaged.

I feel so old. XD

Anyway, a shout-out: Anyone going to Kumoricon in Portland this September? I'll be dressing as Sloth (FMA), Baiken (Guilty Gear) and Walter (Hellsing). Pictures will be posted.

That is all! Peace.

Edit: Yes, Enin, the One Hat is velvety and very much so!

   Because it wins.

This is my new hat. I bought it at my city's arts and crafts fair.

I dare you to find a sweeter hat than this.

That is all. XD

   All is now well.

In case you haven't noticed (don't see how you could miss it, but, oh well!), the website and all the banners should be back online. Sorry for the downtime! The story is, I kind of forgot to renew my hosting plan. XD I paid this morning, though, and it seems everything's running smoothly again.

Thanks for your patience!

Minor life updates: my grandmother, thank goodness, is well on the road to a near-full recovery. The doctors at the hospital honestly thought we'd lose her during mid-June, but she really hung on. She's in a nursing home right now and will be moved to an assisted living type retirement home in a few weeks.

My mother sold a piano and took pity on my joblessness, so I am now the proud owner of a Canon EOS Rebel XT digital camera. I have a penchant for naming my prized possessions (my laptop is Benihime and my old EOS 650 film camera is McTavish), so any suggestions for a sexy silver camera are welcome.

I'm still addicted to Ouran High School Host Club. Some other anime that I've enjoyed recently are Gakuen Heaven (very cheesey boylove, and they don't actually kiss until the last episode, but it's all eye candy and/or crack anyway) and Jigoku Shoujo (moves very slowly, but the art is gorgeous). As for manga, I've been shamelessly sucked into Death Note (heavy subject matter and moral questioning, definitely more plot than eye candy, but I LOVE it) and Earthian (angel shounen-ai; by the same lady who draws Loveless, but a very 80's art style; still, gorgeous and with some color inserts).

While I was driving around Seattle with a friend last week, some jackass insisted that I'd hit his car and dinged his bumper, but when he reported to my insurance agency, he said it was July 20th at one in the afternoon and I'd been driving a Volkswagon (it was actually the 19th at six in the evening, and I drive a Nissan Altima). I made my official statement and had my car inspected and photographed, and basically there's no damage to my car, so this should work out for the better.

I've also borrowed Firefly from one of my friends, and I kind of love it.

That is all! Thanks for sticking with me, guys, and enjoy the rest of the week.

Apologies for banners not working. The website is down, but I'll do my best to have it up ASAP.

Thanks for your patience!

It's funny how television kills the brain.

I've got one anime that you all need to see: Ouran High School Host Club. Don't ask, just watch.

Okay, if you do have to ask, think the level of cuteness and variety of bishounen you'd find in Fruits Basket, minus the mythology, plus the most adorable gender-bending you'll ever see. It is great.

... what now?...

Ummm... now we ramble on about what's been happening with aurus. Not that it matters, particularly, but it's the wee hours of the morning and I just watched three hours of House thanks to the video rental place, so why not? It's not like you've got something better to do, seeing as you're already here. XD

My grandmother is in the hospital - long story, that, don't ask - so I've moved temporarily into her condo to take care of her cat, water her plants, get her mail, keep the dust from building up, et cetera. The job market for temporary summer positions sucks, no matter what the newspaper says, and because I've finally found the digital camera of my dreams, it'd be really nice if I could save up enough to buy it before I go back to school. Especially since to really go anywhere in professional photography, a film camera doesn't cut it, even if I do love the poor old thing to pieces.

My elbows have been and still are strange - tendonitis, thanks to that one kendou practice with the forty pushups, remember that? - and the funny thing is, I could care less about the (very minor) pain. It's the restless feeling that really bugs me. I don't know whether it's part of the tendonitis or just because I can't excersize my arms much, but the joints always feel like I have to keep moving them, even if it's just tensing the muscles around them. Very weird.

What else, what else... I've been baking a lot of scones. What can I say? They're delicious and you can do just about anything to them. My most recent batch I made with a couple tablespoonfulls of raspberry jam and a splash of vanilla extract; the other week, I added diced peaches, orange zest, and lime juice. Gotta love those scones. Maybe next time I'll try chopped walnuts and almond extract, and maybe some other nut-ish things. Hmmm.

That's about all that's been going on. I hope everybody had a good Father's Day, that you've enjoyed the weekend, that those of you who are done with school are enjoying your summer, and that those still in school don't have long to wait. Peace!

I always knew I could trust my government.

... to continually screw with us, that is.

How about sending a letter thing to your senators and telling them that the Federal Marriage Act is a thinly-disguised piece of discriminatory homophobia?

Yeah, that's about all I've got for you today.
