   Fake Wings, Chapter 10!!
Double digits!! w00 w00!1 Well, to those of you who have been reading, many thanks!

Chapter 10

Izayoi spoke with Krad very often from the first time they’d met. First, it was out of reluctance, but now it was because she had found a confidant. They shared a sort of hatred; both of them despised Hadden. Izayoi hated him for killing the only people she’d ever loved. Krad hated him because of his strange enjoyment of watching the suffering of others.

“Either Otomaru’s rubbed off on him or the other way around.” Krad often said, mainly because of Otomaru’s sadistic nature being so similar to that of their boss. The two often went into the desert to train; after all, who better to spar with than another who has skills for battle. Krad fought with a broadsword, one with was almost as big as he was. He and Izayoi made odd battle partners. Sometimes, they would fight against the raiders, who tried to steal their supplies. The two always managed to repel the filthy invaders.

***

Of course, our other desert-bound heroes were not always so lucky. During Ian and Minoru’s trek to the Hunters’ camp, they found themselves fighting desperately for their lives against the raiders. They weren’t strong, but they were numerous, something which often swayed the battle.

“I’m glad they’re gone… I don’t think they’ll be coming back for a while.” Ian panted, wiping blood off of his forehead. He’d gotten a nasty cut, but he’d managed to heal it before it was contaminated by the endless sea of sand. Minoru grinned, and looked down through the dust storm. The Hunters’ compound was in sight, but it would probably take them another day to reach it, the way they were progressing. Ian told him they would just have to find another cave, and hope they would be able to last another day.

“Y’know, I think we might actually be able to get revenge.” Minoru grinned, looking over at Ian, “Hadden’s just a fat, saggy old man. I don’t think that the Hunters will be able to win. Even with their big army, they wouldn’t be able to stand up to our powers combined.” He chuckled lightly, and they continued on their journey.

After a few hours into the dusk, they found another cave. It was cool inside this one, and Ian sighed with relief. The heat of the desert was incredibly irritating, but at least it never lasted for too long after dark.

***

Tenji trained hard within the strange room that Hadden and Otomaru kept her in. Her powers had been enhanced by the occult ritual that had been performed; she now was able to fly without using her new wings or by moving her umbrella while holding it. Every slash, kick, punch and energy burst had been used in thought of killing Otomaru.

“If it hadn’t been for his stupid punishment,” Tenji huffed, “Izayoi would be alive, and I could apologize. Then things could go on as they had, and this stupid war would be over.” Alas, Tenji’s brief moment of optimism would be short lived. Otomaru had planned to keep the war going as long as possible by supplying Hadden with battle plans.

The pieces of the forgotten prophecy were all falling into place; the vital pieces assembling in the final frontier. The Hunters’ base, the very building where Hadden resided, was soon to become very important. Even though it was the epicenter of a war which had been started ages ago, it would now serve a new purpose.

The building was where the hunters and alters would meet their end.

   AEGFF, Chapter 9!
Here's AEGFF, on time for the first time in a few weeks! Enjoy!

Chapter 9

Tera did make her teammates work hard. The weeks went by quick, with class, studying and practicing. Max found himself in the library, where his father often felt the urge to try and help him study. Of course, he would often trip on something and end up throwing the books at Max, who would get knocked out of his chair and onto the floor. Tera was often studying with him. In a few short weeks, they’d become very close friends.

“So, you didn’t take good ol’ Stuff Bear to college? But the poor guy’s gonna be all alone!” Tera cooed, grinning at her friend. He punched her lightly in the arm, and she did the same. They often talked about silly, pointless things like that, for every day for a few weeks. Well, every day except Thursday. She always managed to slip off on those days, leaving Max with P.J. and Bobby for guy time.

“Have you ever wondered why Tera’s never around on Thursday?” Max asked, bringing up the subject again. They constantly found themselves taking about it each Thursday, and since it was raining outside, they’d closed the skate park for the day. P.J. sighed; he’d figured they’d gone through all of the possibilities already. However, each seemed less plausible than the first. They’d gone from the idea of being a serial killer to the idea of being a secret agent. Yes, the ideas seemed immature, but they needed to find out why she was gone.

“Maybe she just went somewhere where it isn’t raining to practice, bro?” Bobby suggested, the roar of a motorcycle reaching their ears. It grew nearer, then fainter, obviously traveling out somewhere. Max stood up, pulling on his raincoat and his skate boarding gear.

“Where are you going, Max?” P.J. asked, taking a sip off his coffee. Max looked back and told them he was going to follow her and see where she was going. He then winked and told them that if he didn’t come back, she was definitely a serial killer. Then, he was gone, skateboarding through the abandoned streets through the rain. Tera’s motorcycle was easily seen through the rain; it cleared the air a lot. Tera turned in the direction of the cemetery, which confused Max.

“The cemetery? Why would she want to go there?” Max asked himself, following behind her. She didn’t seem to notice him, because she hopped off her motorcycle once she’d arrived, whipped out an umbrella, and walked off quickly, heading through the cemetery as though she’d done it many times before. Max followed her, picking up his skateboard and holding it over his head. Eventually, he traced her to a grave with the name “Mamoru Aoki” carved into it.

“Hello big brother.” Tera said, kneeling down and placing her hand on the tombstone, “it’s nice to see you again. I’m sorry I didn’t bring flowers… they were closed today.” She sniffled, and it was evident that she was crying. When she stood up and turned around, she saw Max, and looked surprised. Max cringed, expecting her to be angry. When she rushed at him, he was expecting her to give him a hard hit, but he received a hug.

“What are you doing here Max?” Tera cried, her sobs muffled by having buried her face into Max’s chest, “I should’ve just told you guys what I was doing… but I didn’t want to seem weak.” She looked up into Max’s eyes, figuring the redness of blush in his cheeks was from the cold weather. He smiled down at her, brushing her now soggy hair out of her eyes.

“We wouldn’t think you were weak. You’re mourning your big brother; I don’t think that anyone could go without mourning someone who was close to them like that.” Max grinned, looking into her grateful looking eyes. That moment was the first of a few intimate moments between the two. They’d almost kissed (for real, this time), but when lightning struck three miles away, they’d been scared stiff.

“Quick Max, hop on my motorcycle. Let’s get out of here.” Tera said, closing her umbrella and running back to her motorcycle. He followed behind her, his sopping wet hair concealing the happy look in his eyes. ‘Perhaps there might be some chemistry between us after all…’ Max and Tera thought, the same sort of ideas running through their minds as the left the cemetery.

Well, there you go. I wanted to use that later, but I was planning to put it after Thanksgiving... which would take forever for how the story is progressing thus far. Remember to comment on the story, peoplez!

   Fake Wings, Chapter 9!
Yay, I'm on time this week!! Well, here's Fake Wings. ENJOY!!

Chapter 9

Minoru woke slowly, trying to remember where he was. Then, he remembered the desert, and how he and Ian had already made it halfway through towards the Hunters’ headquarters. He smiled, and stood up, poking the charred, smoldering cinders that had been a fire with the blade of his scythe. After a few moments, Ian stirred, and stood up, yawning. He smiled, and said “good morning” to Minoru, who nodded and repeated the phrase.

They began the walk again, the clear, rising sun behind them. Westward bound, they trudged, footsteps lost to the silence of the desert sands. Water and food had been eaten in the cave earlier, and now they were almost out of supplies. If they were lucky, they would be able to make it back to the capital city… however, they doubted that this would be a return trip.

***

Tenji slowly awakened, her waist hurting slightly. She cried out in pain, but she was mute. Her hand wanted to dart to check her waist, but it wouldn’t move. She was in entropy. ‘How long was I out for?’ She asked herself, ‘where am I? What’s this green guck?’ Questions such as these continued to whirl through her brain, until a familiar figure walked into view. She would’ve been happier if he hadn’t ordered for her death.

“Good morning, Tenji.” Hadden chuckled, “how was your… shall we say, “sleep”?” He grinned, as his bodyguard came up beside him. Then, something inside of Tenji’s head clicked. She had died. And here she was, in a physical body upon this hellish planet again. Sudden hatred for Hadden flowed through her, and she tried to use her psychic powers to kill him. However, all she could do was shatter the glass in the tube, the formaldehyde draining out and pooling on the floor.

“Where’s-Izayoi?” Tenji rasped, her voice unfamiliar to her. She wanted to see her friend… she wanted to apologize for dying on her. Her smile returned to her face, her temporary anger taken out on the tube. Otomaru cackled, preparing to spin another thread. ‘What would it hurt to add more drama?’ He thought. Izayoi already believed Tenji was dead; it wasn’t like they’d ever see each other again anyway.

“Oh… you didn’t hear?” Otomaru said, his tone of voice chilling Tenji to her very core, “Izayoi killed herself. She committed seppuku… well, half-seppuku. She gutted herself. If it makes you feel any better, she’s probably very happy now.” He grinned at Tenji’s sad expression, the smile permanently dropping from her face. Her smile was often forced… it was only for Izayoi, to feel happy for the both of them. Now that she was gone… she had no one to smile for anymore.

“I’m very sorry to hear that…” Tenji said, her voice drenched in tears, even though she wasn’t crying, “Why did you pick me? Why did you resurrect me? I served no real purpose.” Hadden grinned at her remark. ‘Oh, if only you knew…’ He thought, handing a pair of black clothes to Tenji. Somehow, she’d willed herself to move and accepted the clothes, putting them on quietly.

“These look very formal… is there a party or something?” Tenji asked, pulling at the high, black collar of her new shirt. The black lotus on the front looked very beautiful, and it brought something to an otherwise plain piece of clothing. The black skirt was similar, though it had a flower with a yin-yang in the center on her left side. She didn’t receive an answer, and could care less. She unfurled her wings, which she hadn’t known were there, and flew to find a place to mourn.

“A party of the best sort… Shinigami…” Otomaru grinned, addressing Tenji by her prophesized name. It meant “Death God”, but only the other crew members who were fluent in Japanese knew that. Of course, only he and Hadden knew where this room was, so he wouldn’t have to worry about Izayoi bursting in and tearing his beautiful web of deceit to pieces.

Its a little shorter than usual, but I've been putting alot more planning into AEGFF... so yeah. Read and review, s'il vous plait!

   AEGFF Chapter 8!!
Here's chapter 8 of AEGFF! Sorry it's late, I was out all weekend! I'd have posted this on Friday, but that's when I left. I'll probably have the stories up on Saturday next week for sure!

Chapter 8

Tera sighed and headed out across the field, looking for Max. Unfortunately, she bumped into someone she hadn’t been expecting to see. It was Chad Underwood, the Gammas’ new front man. She snorted with disgust, and looked away from him. It was obvious that he was going to try and hit on her again; guys like him never learned.

“What do you want?” Tera asked, looking around the campus, “I’ve already joined Max’s team, if you were about to make the mistake of asking me to join yours. And I’m not gonna go out with you; I wouldn’t even if I WAS attracted to you.” Her tongue was sharp, and should have been registered as a legal weapon. Of course, Chad took it in stride. He had had a feeling she’d be like that… it would be tougher to get her to take the bait if she wouldn’t listen.

“I was actually hoping you’d join another team.” Chad said, grinning when she turned to face him, “I realized you’re not good enough to join our team, so you had to settle for Goof’s team.” He chuckled at the angry look in his eyes. She was acting just as he’d thought; she wasn’t the type to take an insult lying down, especially one about her friends.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Tera asked, anger burning in her eyes, “I could kick you butt any day of the week. And I don’t just mean in the X Games.” She grinned at his expression, laughing a little when his hand went to his cheek. It still looked a little bruised, but it wasn’t as bad as when she’d kicked him. He smiled; he’d gotten her into his trap.

“So… you think you’re that good? Would you care to make a wager?” Chad asked, grinning when Tera nodded, “if your team wins the X Games, I’ll do whatever you say. If MY team wins, however… you have to go on a date with me.” Tera’s face fell. He noticed, and grinned, offering a hand for her to shake. ‘A DATE?! With HIM?’ Tera thought to herself, “there’s no way; I would never sink THAT low!’ Unfortunately, Tera’s mouth disobeyed her mind, and she found herself reaching out to shake his hand.

“You’re on, Chadwick.” Tera said, grinning as he cringed, “and if I win, you do whatever I ask. For a week.” She shook his hand, and left as quickly as possible. Angry thoughts were running through her mind, mainly about how stupid she was. Unfortunately, to add insult to injury, Chad called something back to her. It was something that was bound to screw her over.

“Oh, and if you tell ANY of your teammates about our bet, you automatically lose!” Chad laughed as he said it, and walked off, ignoring the holes that Tera’s eyes were drilling into him. ‘SHIT!!’ Tera screamed inside her head, ‘DAMMIT!! That scumbag! I can’t tell my teammates ‘cause I’ll lose that way… and if they cheat again and don’t get caught, I lose!! I’m boned either way.’ She griped for a few moments, before the shocking reality hit her.

“I’ll lose my first date…”

***

Class passed by unreasonably slow. The schedule was bad enough, but the stupid reviews were capable of boring a student into a coma. Max had managed to stay awake through it all somehow, and Tera was kept awake by the nagging voice of pessimism in the back of her mind. Max, Bobby and P.J. didn’t see much of Tera the rest of the day; she’d gone back to her dorm earlier and said she was busy when any of them knocked.

Max took the time off to shower; somehow, he’d slept in and almost been late for class. It surprised him… a lot. He hadn’t slept in ‘til noon since he was back in high school over the weekends. He paid it no mind, and slipped into the bathroom. It was almost a bigger mess than their dorm was. However, his mind was wandering, and he thought of Tera. It bothered him that he was only her friend… it seemed like they could’ve been more.

‘But you’re only on a temporary break with Roxanne ‘cause she’s out of state for college…’ Max though, examining himself in the mirror. Unruly, black hair, weird clothes… he didn’t think he’d be able to get a date with anyone BUT Roxanne, looking the way he did. He undressed and hopped into the shower, taking a few shirts off the towel rack to find his.

The water was warm; according to Tera, he’d gotten one of the “good” showers. Hers had mixed up hot and cold, and every time she tried to fix it, the water still ran the wrong way. He chuckled lightly, rubbing the shampoo into his hair. ‘Pears by Suave… what a stupid name for shampoo…’ Max though to himself and he lathered the basic substance throughout his hair. While his hair was lathered, he took the time to wash his body; it was easier without his hair flopping into his eyes while he was washing his face.

His shower was fairly quick; it was a simple shampoo and body wash, and then out. He took a moment to look at himself in the mirror again. He looked less… gangly. As he’d been growing up, he’d always looked kind of lanky and skinny. Recently, however, he’d noticed he’d been “filling out.” He looked a little broader, and had (a little) muscle tone. He smiled and got dressed again, changing into a blue t-shirt, some socks, boxers and his blue jeans.

“Took ya long enough.” Tera chuckled as Max stepped out of the bathroom, “I’ve been a bit bored; nice shirt.” She smiled at him, wishing every second that she could tell him her predicament. Of course, if she told him, she’d lose, and would go on the date anyway. He blushed a little and sat down on his bed, across from her where she sat on Bobby’s bottom bunk.

“We got a letter, Max!” Tera laughed excitedly, holding up a little, torn open envelope, “we’ve been invited to join the winter X Games… the PROFESSIONAL Winter X Games!” She laughed at the confusion and excitement that blended together on Max’s face. He grinned, and read the letter when Tera offered it to him. He hooted with delight, and sank back onto his bed.

“We’d better get training then! The Winter X Games are only a few months away.” Max grinned, leaving the room to tell Bobby and P.J. Tera’s smile faded once the door shut. If they lost, it would be broadcast on T.V. Not only that, but her first date (which she was hoping would be with Max), would go to some Gamma scum! She had to make sure they trained hard… without giving away her little problem.

Well, here you go. Hope you enjoyed it! Remember, read and review!

   Fake Wings, Chapter 8!!
Sorry they're late!! I was out all weekend, and I hunge out wif summerbaby10 and one of my friends for a while.

Chapter 8

Minoru stood still for a few moments, shock gluing his feet to the sandy ground beneath him. Ian, however, sprung into action, his shuko whipping around and severing legs and claws as they flew. Several scorpions lay bleeding on the sandy ground, the orange liquid mixing with the never ending sands. Minoru finally kicked into gear when the scorpions ran past Ian to attack him. His scythe whirled about, and barbed tails flew. In the end, he’d come out of the group that had surrounded him unscathed, albeit covered in the thick, syrupy blood.

Ian was quiet; he didn’t feel like talking at that moment. His arms flailed about, beheading and cutting the oversized insects around him. Minoru picked up the flack, killing off several off the beasts. He nodded to Ian, an “I’m-sorry-I-didn’t-listen-right-away-“ sort of expression taking up his face. Ian smiled, and cut off a scorpion’s head. They were in for a lot of fun.
***

After about a half hour, all their assailants were dead. They were covered in blood and sand, which had been whipped up around them through the sandstorm. They panted wearily, the staggering amount of carnage overwhelming their senses. However, they pressed on; they’d lost too much time in this little dune. It was imperative that they hurried; it was possible there were still some alters alive in the base that needed rescuing.

“You fight good.” Minoru broke the silence, surprising Ian. The teenager wasn’t used to hearing compliments; he’d often been teased because of his “sissy” power. He smiled and nodded his thanks to Minoru.

“You’re not too bad yourself… where’d you learn to fight?” Ian found himself asking, not prepared for the long story that was to follow. Minoru cleared his throat, and began his story, being sure not to leave any details out. The Hunters had attacked them before, but the Alters had been victorious. Of course, the Hunters took a few “experiments” before the battle was over. Minoru was one of them.

He’d been put through many tortures, and been put into a battle arena for Hadden’s amusement. There were three hunters he’d remembered seeing frequently. The black haired girl with the white eye, some strange looking boy with pink hair, and Hadden himself. The black haired girl always snuck him food and trained him, the pink haired boy tortured him and beat him, and Hadden only watched and laughed.

Eventually, the black haired girl released Minoru, telling him to knock her out to look like he’d escaped. He was surprised to see her leading an attack on the village and ordering the massacre. Of course, there were still plenty of Alters; they only lived in the capital city. Ian nodded and sighed, putting his arms behind his head.

“It’s gonna get dark soon…” Ian said, looking over at Minoru, “we need to find some place to find shelter in…” Minoru nodded, and they continued their walk. After a few hours, they stopped for food, guzzling water to keep hydrated and take their minds off of the heat. Eventually, near sundown, they found a cave. The two rushed for it as fast as they could, sand slipping harshly out from beneath their feet as they made their mad dash. Once inside, they started a fire, trying to keep warm.

“I can’t believe it got so cold… I always thought deserts were hot all the time.” Ian mumbled, shivering in his tank top. Minoru grinned and tossed him his blanket.

“Well, that’s one of life’s great mysteries. Now close your eyes and get some sleep.” Minoru grinned, lying down. It was evident that he was also cold; gooseflesh had broken out up and down his visible forearms. Ian walked over, lay down and turned his back on Minoru, throwing the blanket over the two of them.

“Night.” Ian yawned, falling asleep almost instantly. Minoru looked over his shoulder, blushing slightly. It was odd for someone to pay him a kind gesture; he’d been looked down upon since he’d been taken in for experiments by the hunters. He smiled and turned his back to Ian, trying to fall asleep. Somehow, he couldn’t. He though of Ian a lot, and how it felt good to him that they were back to back on the sandy floor of the cave. Eventually, he nodded off, thoughts whirling throughout his head.

Yesh, Minoru and Ian are yaoi-ful. Don't complain to me; it happened in the RP, so I am forced to put it in the story. COMPLAIN LATER!!

   AEGFF Chapter 7!
The majority of this chapter is a flashback from Tera's perspective; maybe it'll give you some clues as to how Roxanne got with Max instead of her.

Chapter 7

Tera went to her next class alone; no one else that she knew was in English Lit. She sighed; it was another orientation, as they did for just about every class at the start of the year. Somehow, she’d been hoping that they would stop after her first year in college, but she was wrong. As it often did, her mind wandered, and she thought back to the last day ion her first year of high school. That last day of 9th grade… the day Max did his “concert”.

***

Tera (or Tommy Gunn as she will be called for the remainder.), was sitting in the auditorium, surrounded by the rest of the guys she hung out with. Most were sporty, and most had tried to pick her up. But every time they did, she turned them down, saying her heart belonged to someone else. Of course, she never told that to anyone, except her best friend.

“How about “science slumber parties?”” Principal Mazur suggested, before the lights went off. Music began to play, and a screen lifted behind their bewildered teacher. Tommy Gunn was awestruck, and laughed quietly when Principal Mazur fell through a trap door in the stage. Powerline’s song “Stand Out” began to play, as one of their fellow students showed up on the screen, lip synching.

‘He looks familiar…’ Tommy Gunn thought to herself, as the boy burst through the screen. Everyone cheered; she even found herself cheering. The boy continued lip synching, approached a red-head named Roxanne. It looked almost as though the whole show was for her. One of the stage hands put a hook under the Powerline look-alike’s belt, and a crane lifted him into the air.

“Who’s that guy?” One of the irritating preppy girls shouted, swooning as the imitation soared above them, putting a basketball through one of the hoops. Then, he approached, Roxanne, his hand outstretched and reaching for hers. Unfortunately for him, the music skipped and stopped, as Principal Mazur stopped the concert. He removed the boy’s sunglasses, revealing an embarrassed looking Max Goof. Tommy Gunn blushed slightly, and left the auditorium with the other students.

“Psst!” Came a whisper from behind her, “come on Tera, follow me!” Tommy Gunn recognized the voice all a once. It was Roxanne, her best friend. Well, it wasn’t known that Tera and Roxanne were friends; they’d kept their friendship very secret since they’d first met in 6th grade. Tommy Gunn followed her friend into the girl’s bathroom, where they began talking about Max’s concert.

“Wow, it looked like he really went the extra mile for you.” Tommy Gunn congratulated her friend, patting her shoulder gently, “I wish he’d pay attention to me like that though.” She’d been harboring her secret feelings for Max almost the entire year; she’d only told Roxanne about them. Roxanne nodded, then pulled a coin out of her pocket.

“Tera… you know that we’ve both had a crush on Max for a long time now…” Roxanne began, Tommy Gunn nodding quietly, “and since he can’t have two girlfriends… let’s flip for it. Heads, I’ll try to go out with him. Tails, you get to try your chances.” Tommy Gunn nodded; she trusted her friend whole-heartedly. Roxanne flipped the coin high in the air, both watching intently as it began to fall.

“Let it hit the floor.” Tommy Gunn said, watching as it landed. Once the coin stopped spinning, it became clear on what it had landed on. Heads. Tommy Gunn sighed; her friend had won Max fair and square. Roxanne bent over and picked up the coin, and for a moment, she though that she’d seen two heads on the coin. She dismissed the thought immediately however; she knew her friend Roxanne would never cheat her.

Well, you’ve won Max fair and square. It’s obvious that he likes you… now go get ‘im, tiger!” Tommy Gunn congratulated her friend, patting her on the shoulder. Roxanne smiled, meeting her gaze for a moment. There was a disappointment in her eyes; as though she’d disappointed herself or her friend. Tommy Gunn ignored it, and watched her friend leave.

As soon as Roxanne was gone, a sad look came over her face. Her hand reached into the front pocket on her black hoodie, pulling out a notepad and a pen. Her notepad had pink, fuzzy bombs on it, and she smiled momentarily. Flipping through the pages until she found a clean one, she began to scribble notes on it. She was a part of the school paper, and was accustomed to writing headlines and taking notes.

“Newsflash,” Tommy Gunn muttered as she wrote, “Tommy Gunn, ace reporter, suffers from a broken heart… more details as the story develops.” She scrawled, sighing and holding back tears. She’d been desperately in love with Max, and now her chance to nab him was gone forever. She’d promised him to Roxanne, and was one to never go back on her word.

***

After about a week, the Powerline concert aired on T.V.. According to Roxanne, Max was going to be on stage with the pop star. She’d been talking about it nonstop and had even invited Tommy Gunn to come watch. She’d come bitterly; she was still a bit bummed that Roxanne and Max could be going on a date as soon as he got back.

Tommy Gunn stood in the corner by the punch bowl, looking at the T.V., watching for Max. Unfortunately, he hadn’t popped up yet, which was lowering the morale; not only in Roxanne, but in herself as well. She was hoping that Max would be appearing; it was basically the only reason she’d come to the party. Minutes trickled past, and Max still hadn’t appeared. She was about to lose hope, until…

“That’s Max!! I know him!!” Bobby shouted as Max landed on stage, between his father, who’d shown up a few seconds previously. Tommy Gunn smiled wider than she meant to, but no one was looking at her, so it didn’t matter. Everyone started dancing, while Tommy Gunn stood at the wall, drinking punch. Her eyes were glued to the screen, watching as Max danced with the biggest pop star of the era.

And she continued to watch; she watched as everyone else had their firsts. First dates, first kisses, pretty much everything. She didn’t do any of that herself; she was still hoping, still dreaming that she might be able to be with Max someday. Everything passed her by in high school, even though she passed all her courses with flying colors. Unfortunately, the remainder her of high school years wouldn’t be very happy either…

***

Tera snapped back into reality, the sounds of footsteps and rustling paper filling the room. The lecture was over-thankfully- and Tera would have a few more minutes… if Max and the others had a break. She still harbored feelings for him, but she knew he wouldn’t return them. After all, he and Roxanne were only on a “break” from their relationship. However, she wouldn’t find out about how wrong she was until much later.

Yeah... that one kept coming, like brain vomit. I like it though. Read and review both stories, please!

   Fake Wings, Chapter 7!
Yesh, here's Chapter 7. Minoru and Ian are back on the scene, so it's going to be a bit longer than it would be if it were only Izayoi and the hunters.

Chapter 7

Otomaru did as he was told. He took a vial out of his pocket, marked “SUBJECT 1”. Grinning, he drew a pentagram on the floor with it, emptying the beaker. However, he was uneasy. This ritual was deep, black magic; most often used by corrupt alters. Would it actually work?

“Otomaru, it’s going to work. The prophecy will come true, and we’ll succeed in our mission,” Hadden said clearly, as though he could read Otomaru’s mind. Sighing, he outstretched his hands, gesturing for his bodyguard to take them. He did as he was told, then closed his eyes, focusing on Tenji. His boss began chanting something low, in a strange language. Otomaru knew it well; he’d been studying this spell since he’d first heard of the prophecy.

Otomaru joined his boss in the chanting, speaking slowly and in English. A dark, black aura began to form around the pentagram, but neither noticed. If they opened their eyes, the spell wouldn’t work. The words seemed to drift throughout the room, ominously filling it with darkness. Soon, Tenji’s body also began to herald the black glow. Then, with a whooshing noise, a white orb burst through the pentagram, flinging itself through the glass, through the formaldehyde, and into Tenji’s body.

Her pulse returned, but her eyes did not open. Otomaru opened his eyes once the chanting had ended, and looked over at Tenji. Her body had undergone a great physical change. Her once red fur was grey, and the black stripes beneath her eyes were green. She had also grown wings; black and leathery, orange membrane connecting the wingtips. Her eyes, which were half open, were yellow; changed indefinitely from her former green.

“So it was true… the prophecy is about to come true.” Otomaru chuckled, looking at Tenji, “she looks comatose… shall we leave her? Or should I keep watch?” He looked at his boss, who told him to leave her be. It was late, and Otomaru wouldn’t be on his toes if he didn’t get enough sleep. With a sigh, he retired to his quarters, flopping onto his bed.

“Perhaps Tenji sides with the Alters? What if it’s her destiny to destroy US instead of them?” Otomaru mused, before his head hit his pillow. As soon as it did, all speech ended, and he’d fallen into a deep sleep.

Terra was a bit surprised that there were actually survivors in the village. They’d turned up in the last day, glad to see the others. Terra decided to stay back in the city and stand guard, while Minoru and Ian went on their search. Unfortunately for them, they weren’t the only ones lurking just outside. Izayoi, who waited beyond the barrier, couldn’t wait for them to exit. She only wanted to do her job and get back to the base.

“The sooner I can go, the better.” Izayoi griped, watching as Ian stepped out of the dome. She sighed, unsheathing her nodachi; quietly, stealthily. Holding it near her left side, she prepared a dash. Ian, who was picking herbs for medicine, didn’t notice her. Now, if it was by extreme fortune or extreme clumsiness, Ian tripped, and managed to escape the berth of Izayoi’s blade. He looked over his shoulder at Izayoi, her milk white eye staring directly into his.

“Damn!” Izayoi cursed quietly, straightening herself, “I was supposed to get you quietly and go home, but I guess not. How would you like to die? A) You submit and die quickly… or B) we fight until I kill you.” She sighed, looking at the fear in his eyes. It sickened her; she hated being viewed as a monster. Of course, being a killer of extreme skill, she knew she would be hated.

“But… but why do you want to kill me?” Ian asked, having fallen over in terror. Izayoi was about to answer, but she was cut off by a sudden attack from Minoru. He swung at her with his scythe, but she blocked the brunt of the attack. As quickly as he’d come, Minoru grabbed Ian and teleported again. Izayoi grimaced in pain, her hand darting to her ribs. She was bleeding; Minoru’s scythe had connected, but the blow was not fatal.

“Hadden, sir… they got away.” Izayoi said bluntly into her P.A. system, “I’m returning to base.” She shut off the communicator without waiting for a response, and headed back to her ship. Blood soaked into her uniform, but she ignored it, only intent on returning to her base. If the alters came, she would be ready to kill them.

Minoru and Ian reappeared on the outskirts of the forest, staring into the desert beyond. A sandstorm was being whipped up, which made it difficult to see. Ian thanked Minoru for saving him; the hunter would probably have made short work of him. Minoru told him it was no big deal, and the two began their walk across the blazing dunes. Izayoi’s ship streaked by silently invisible through cloaking. Neither of them noticed; they were too preoccupied with their mission.

“So… how far is it to the hunters’ base?” Ian asked, his grip tightening on his shuko as they walked. Minoru told him it would take at least one day to get halfway by foot. Fortunately, they’d brought enough food and water to keep themselves alive. Of course, with all the dangerous creatures and raiders lurking in the desert, they would be lucky not to be attacked.

They walked in silence, both being careful to watch out for enemies. Even if they had wanted to speak, it may have warranted unwanted attention. Ian sighed, scratching his cheek with his finger. ‘If we aren’t the only ones in the desert, why does it seem so?’ He asked himself, ’a simple sandstorm shouldn’t be able to hide as many enemies as there are supposed to be.’ Unfortunately, his hunched proved incorrect, as they were being followed. However, it was by desert predators; gigantic scorpions.

Their claws clicked ominously as they approached, no longer trying to hide. Ian stopped walking, looking over his shoulder. What he saw chilled him to the bone. The dunes behind them were slowly being filled by the gigantic beasts, all hissing and waving their toxic tails ominously. Minoru never seemed to notice, even as the beasts approached. Also, he didn’t pay attention to Ian’s nudges.

“SCORPIONS!!” Ian screamed frantically, finally getting Minoru’s attention. The scorpions also took this time to attack, claws clicking furiously as their many legs rushed toward the two alters.

There you go! Hope you enjoy the story! ~_^
