HI. My wonderful friend Stephanie got me into this, and so, when I get around to it I'll keep a little journal here. Or do something else that's cool. Who knows?

   Busy, bust, busy
...and that's what I've been ofr the past week or so. Busy meeting new people from some old friends, Terry and Kayla, who were with me in Guys and Dolls, and meeting new people by myself, like Ashley who plays the tinman in the rainbow cast, and juggling everything else in my life.

Vanessa didn't get the other tinman (like i said Ashley did.) She's a winkie. Grace got a call back as a yellow brick road dancer and droped the play right there for another play put on by another acting group (They're doing 'Little Princess' and Grace is either the cook or Ms. Murchen's sister, I can't remember which.)
Erin Carrol is also a winkie. She's a sevie at Sorrows and is in my homeroom. She's very nice, and i'm not sure if I mentioned it or not, but she got called back for Dorthy and the Tinman, too.
Alanna and her sister Maranda originally didn't get called back, but so many kids dropped out that now Maranda is a munchkin (of course, all kids first through fifth are munchkins) and Alanna is a monkey. She gets to dance to Thriller, which reminds me, I need to send a link to her (it's a movie clip for '13 Going On 30' where people dance to Thriller. It's very cool.)

My dance and song? It's a cute little number called "Slide Some Oil to Me," which has some parts that would be very good for a tap dancer. Well, both Ashley and her mom (who plays Auntie Em) fit that categorty, as well as Lisa, our director. Unfortunately, I took tap for a year when I was five, and that wasn't much, but hip hop is helping a little (maybe i can ask me instructor more about it when I go tonight?) Anyhoiw, they're trying to teach me, and i'm trying to learn. It's harder than it looks, but I'm getting it.

Let's see: step, hop, shuffle, ball change, quick weight change, step...

   Red Hering
I got a call five minutes ago from Sky's the Limit. You won't believe it, I don't believe it, my Mom doesn't believe it.

I GOT THE TINMAN!!!!!!!!
WHOOOOO
YEAH!
(hehe, sorry, had to let it out.)

When the phone rang I had this feeling inside that this was it. This was the call from Sky's the Limit. The one I had waited and waited for. And when I picked up the phone and I heard a voice asking for Emily, I knew it was them. I could sorta tell they had good news for me because they seemed all happy on the other line, you know, like when you're about to give someone something they've wanted forever, but they have no clue you're giving it to them.

Well, school wasn't the best today. Runny nose, coffing, my great hat was beaten by a fake little fireman helmet that make noise (ok, it did look cute on Stan, but please, my hat has like, over 400 pins stuck on it. You could hardly see the hat!) But i got candy, and it was a half day, but after this and Nana's enthuastic yes to me asking her to be my sponsor for my conformation, well, who cares? Martin Luther Jr. King day is Monday, and we get that day off so we have a super long weekend with no homework.

And, I get to be the tinman.

Oh, yeah! P.S. About the smiley face and title, a red hering is a clue to something that acctually leads you to think the opposite of what's expected. So the angry face might have had some people thinking "Oh no, she didn't get the part," when it's just the opposite.

   Callbacks
I'm going to have to make this short since it's late and Caitlin and Andrew (my two younger sibblings are already in bed, though probably not asleep.) Well, at seven I arrived at the Costic Center for my auditions.

There were 7 girls trying out for Dorthy. What we did was do some lines with Glinda and the Witch (or the people who had gotten called back to play them,) and then with the scarecrow. After, we quickly learned the song "Home," which Dorthy sings at the end. Unfortunately, I didn't know it too well, and i got picked to go first. i lost my place half way through, but i recovered (though didn't do nearly as good as half the other girls.)

Next, five other girls and me switched between Dorthy and the tinman while reading off a script. It was a lot of fun because i love singing more than acting. After, the other Dorthys went home and the tinmen stayed to do "Slide Some Oil to Me." We had to do a dance, and i think I did well with that and the singing. I believe I have a chance. Vanessa did good, she has a beautifl voice. There were some people from the last "Sky's the Limit" production I had been in (Guys and Dolls) that were also there tonight. Lots of fun, lots of old friends, the play will be great even if I don't get a good part.

In the mean time I'm going to have to find a way to balance that and battle of the books (aka BOB.) But I will have to tell you that either tomorrow or Saturday, and you'll have to wait until then to find out what part I get, but I have to wait too, so until the phone rings and some one says "Hi, I'm from Sky's the Limit and..."

   The Beginning
All the world's a stage.

I forgot who said that, Shakespear? Anyhow, that saying applies to me. I'm a drama queen, praying for action, adventure, comedy, and romance around each corner. But my life, while blessed with fun and encouraging friends and a loving family, doesn't make the cut of one of the big screen movies I've pictured my self in. But that's why I act.

I'm not a movie star (with their fancy cars and their limosinues,) but I do play the piano, take hip hop, and tryout for any play I can (though the rest of my family's schedule limits me to one play at a time.) That's why I went last night to the Costic Center at six to try out for "The Wonderful World of OZ," a mix between "The Wizard of OZ," (which I was in three years ago as a member of the Lullaby Leauge,) and Broadway's "The Wiz."
Well, I went, and after waiting in a long line for a while (it went fast with the help of one of my best friends, Alanna, to talk to,) I was signed up as number 83.
After everyone signed up, auditions began. Since one went first Alanna got her audition over with fast. On the other hand, I got to wait, pratice, and talk with two other girls from our school, Grace and Vanessa. When I was my turn I sang loud, and gave the speaking part my all.
And i guess it was good because i got a callback for not one, but two parts today, Dorthy and the Tinman. Pretty good considering that those are the only main parts i've got the chance of getting. All the other main parts go to either high schoolers or adults (as stated on the form) and since no high schoolers tried out, that means they'll be played by people nineteen and up. But I'm not complaining, just stating fact, and the fact is, I'm very happy (and nervous.)
Of couse, if I got a call back, then Grace and Vanessa definately got a call back becuase they take voice and have gone to more acting camps and workshops than me. I wonder about Alanna though. She's a good actor, but she hasn't been in as many plays as the rest of us, and plays are pratice, and pratice makes perfect, but who knows. Well, unless it snows really hard all tonight, I'll know tomorrow.
