My View on the Golden Globe Awards
Okay all, normally I am at least a little satisfied with what I see at the Golden Globe Awards, but this year I was a little overly disappointed since I thought that a few people/movies should have gotten the award hands down and didn't. Therefore, I thought I would go ahead and do my own little awards. Heh heh. Yeah, they mean nothing and they are just my opinion, but I really wanted the globes to turn out this way. So, here we go:

First off, I am only going to comment on 7 out of all of the awards that were given. They are not the only ones I care about, but they are the ones I care about the most. The 7 categories I will be commenting on are:
-Best Motion Picture Drama
-Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy
-Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama
-Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy
-Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama
-Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy
-Best Foreign Film

First, for Best Motion Picture Drama, the award winner at the Golden Globe Awards (hereafter to be referred to as GG) was "Brokeback Mountain." I have a big problem with this film. Not that it is a poorly made film, but that it deals with gay love which I view as immoral and wrong. So, I have not seen the film and have no desire to. Because of that fact, I would have given the award to "Good Night, And Good Luck." A phenomenal film dealing with the conflict between newscaster Edward R. Murrow and Sen. Joseph McCarthy during the 1950's communism scare. It was incredibly acted, incredibly directed, and a blast to watch. It, in my opinion, deserved the award that it didn't get.

Next, for Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, "Walk the Line" was given the award. This was the biggest surprise for me. I had thought that "The Producers" was almost a hands down winner. I didn't forsee any type of competition in this category. Flabbergasted is the best word to describe my reaction when I saw "Walk the Line" had won. I just think that "The Producers" was so incredibly well done that it deserved the win. And, I'm not even sure how much of a comedy "Walk the Line" actually is. It's a biographical film of the story of Johnny Cash's life, how is that comedy? I guess I just have to see the movie. I guess the GG just loved the acting, but even in that area, i think "The Producers" had it topped.

Now, for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama, I was quite pleased. This was one of the categories that I actually agreed with the GG on. The award was given to Philip Seymour Hoffman for his portral of Truman Capote in the film "Capote." I didn't actually see the film, but just by the trailers I can see that the man nailed it. I'd have gone and seen the film too, if I thought I could withstand two hours listening to that voice of his. But, I thought I might have gone insane and thus decided against seeing the film. Maybe that was the wrong choice.

In the category of Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy I was most disappointed. Again, I thought the man who dind't win was an easy shoe-in. The award was given to Joaquin Phoenix for his portrayal of Johnny Cash in "Walk the Line." I'll go ahead and say that he did a great job. I think he probably deserved the award he got, but Nathan Lane deserved it more for his portrayal of Max Bialystock in "The Producers." He displayed such incredible talent in the movie. He can sing, he can dance, and he can entertain with the best of them. I think his performance of the song "Betrayed" was enough to get him the award. When he finished singing I wanted to stand up and applause. It was that good. Nathan Lane, you're the winner in my heart. Great job!

For Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama, Felicity Huffman (pictured above) received the award for "Transamerica." Again, I didn't see this film and hadn't even heard of it until the nomination for the GG were released to the public. So, since i didn't see the film and haven't even seen the trailer, I can't comment on her acting in the film. But, I personally would have liked to see the award go to Zhang Ziyi, everyone's favorite chinese actress, for her portrayal of Sayuri in the film "Memoirs of a Geisha." I was in awe of this film. I had hoped it would win the award this year for Best Motion Picture Drama. Unfortunately it wasn't even nominated (BOOO!). I just thought Ziyi did an amazing job in the film and deserved the award. Here's hoping for the Oscars (Go Zhang Ziyi!).

I have very little to say for the category of Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. I didn't see any of the films that were nominated and thus have no room to speak. So, awesome job Reese Witherspoon! YAY!!

Lastly, for the category of Best Foreign Film, I have almost as little to say. I dind't see any of those films but one, "Kung Fu Hustle." That was a great movie! I loved it and it was fun. I dont' think it necessarily deserved the award, but I haven't seen the other films to know. So, just for the fact that it was a fun movie and I liked it, I would have given the award to "Kung Fu Hustle."

That is all that I am going to comment on. I'd like to hear everyone's views on this topic. If you enjoy movies and award shows, let me know your views!    A New Post!!!
Okay all, I'm really really sorry that I haven't posted for so long. Life sped up quite a bit and posting just ins't a priority. But, I have returned to school anc classes have started up again. Surprisingly enough, that frees up a lot of my time and thus I will be posting again. And often. So, to update you on all that has happened since I posted last. First of all, my Christmas was great!!! I loved it. I got some very cool things and I gave some even better things. Overall, it was a good Christmas. New years went as well as could be expected. I spent the evening with my parents' minichurch group (small biblestudy group that meets outside of church). We played a game called Bunko until midnight and then celebrated with champaigne. Also ate some really good food at Abuelo's. Anyway. The last major event was a snowboarding trip to Colorado with my dad and friend David. We went to Durango Ski Resort in Durango, CO. It was a great trip apart from the fact that most of the mountain was closed due to lack of snow. Wow, has it been a hot dry winter. Now i'm back at college though and classes have started back up again. Yahoo (insert sarcasm). It's not that bad though. I'm taking some fun classes. I hope I do well. That's about all that's happening currently. Again, sorry for not posting for such a long time. It's good to be back!

Yeah...
I don't have much to post about currently. After all, my site isn't really being frequented by many people, so there really isn't much motivation to post. I just feel obligated, ya know? Eh... Anyway, I got all of my christmas shopping done with finally. I hope my sister's gift arrives tomorrow, because if it doesn't, I'm screwed. I got her DDR for the Xbox as well as two DDR dance pads. I ordered them for an incredible price off of eBay. Unfortunately, they were not shipped until monday. I figured that would be plenty of time, but I guess mail runs slower during the holidays. It's still not here. So, yeah. Hope it gets here. I am and am not looking forward to Christmas all at the same time. Sure, I am looking forward to the gifts and hanging out with my family, who are by the way all convening over here at my house, but it's just not going to be the same without my grandmother. Everybody's really stressed. The holidays just aren't the same this year. After Christmas is when the real fun starts though. My dad and I are going snowboarding in Colorado! Yay! I can't wait. You probably thinking, "you're dad snowboards?" To answer that question, yes he does. He loves it. He even bought his own board a couple of days ago on eBay. He is the person who got me started. I first tried it 4 years ago and on my first run down the mountain I fell and broke my wrist. We skipped the next year and then i went back to skiing. The year after i decided i wouldn't let the board beat me. So, i tried it. I got going all right. Now, it's come to this year. I'm going to try the board this year too, and if I don't like it that much after this year, i'm going back to skis, which I love. We'll see how it goes. Well, I'm gonna say that's going to be all for this post. I hope you all have a great Christmas since I won't be posting until next week. Oh, speaking of Christmas, i almost forgot. I have recently come into possession of a J-pop christmas album. It's only got six songs, three of which are done by Japanese artsists, but if anyone wants the songs off of it, IM me and I'll send them to you. My little gift to TheOtaku world. Merry Christmas!!!

   The week as it's been so far... and beyond
Well, my week has started off with quite a bang. Thursday I finished with my finals, as the last post informed you of. I made it home safe and sound. And, right off the bat I turn around and head out again. I went down to Waco to comfort and be with a good friend of mine who is going through some very tough times. If you are a Christian, or even if you're not, please pray for David, he needs it. While there we hung out and talked, saw the Chronicles of Narnia (awesome movie), and went to my ex-high school state football game in Austin where we saw them whoop up on Calallen 28 - 0! Go hawks! After that wonderful time down there, I have returned home where I plan on staying for a while. I get to hang around the house and watch anime all day! Yay! What else could a guy ask for? Tonight I got to go to the college bible study at my church. Something I haven't gotten to do in a while since I've been 400 miles away. It was a great evening. After the bible study we went to Snuffers and ate greasy food. I had the greasiest burger I have ever seen! I swear that burger alone added 5 pounds of fat to my waist. I won't be going back to Snuffers for a while. Finally, with stomachs bulging, me and three of my friends from the college group went and saw King Kong. OMG OMG OMG IT"S A GOOD MOVIE!!! Peter Jackson knows how to shoot a film! I haven't had that much fun at the movies since Serenity! All of you guys need to go and see it. It's worth however much it is now to see a movie. In fact, just go and see movies in the theaters in general. The entertainment business is in a really big slump right now and it would be a shame to see all these wonderful movies go away because Hollywood can't afford to shoot 'em. I know I always bash Hollywood for their lack of creativity and effort, but I really would be sad to see it go. Go see movies! For all you Japanese culture fans, go and see Memoirs of a Geisha! Even though most of the actors aren't Japanese, it's still gonna be a great movie. Anyway, that was my little sales pitch. Enough of that. I'll be done for now. Expect more posts soon!    It's Over!
Sorry for not posting in a week or so. I've been rather busy with my finals. Well, i wouldn't say i've been too busy, but it's been difficult to justify using my time to post. The good news is that my finals are finally over! Yay! And, i did well too. I think i probably made it out of this semester with a couple of A's and a few B's. If i made a B- or under i'll be really mad. So, now i'm on my way home where I get to lay around, watch anime and television, see movies, hang out, eat good food, open presents, and go skiing! How much more could a guy ask for? So, again, sorry about the lack of posting for a few days. I'll post again real soon. Sayonara!

   Procrastination Post
It's sad, but I'm procrastinating. That's why I'm posting. At least, that's why I'm posting now. I was going to post today anyway since I hadn't done it in a couple of days. Procrastination is simply what prompted me to do it now.
Anyway, today is filled with crap to do. In fact, this week is filled with crap to do. I love finals (sarcastic)! I've got two pieces of artwork to do and I've got studying to do in two of my classes for their finals. Thankfully, two of my classes don't have finals, which is a relief. My biggest worry is simply these art projects. I am slow when it comes to art. I like to take it slow and do it right. Unfortunately, Finals time is not really the time to be slow. It's simply stressful, that's all.
Yesterday, in a break I had from all the hectic stuff, I decided to submit a mascot to the AnimeSuki.com mascot competition. I don't expect to win, but thre is always that possiblity. The thought of winning 150 or 75 dollars was too great for me to pass up giving it a shot. Hopefully i'm going to be posting my little creation on TheOtaku.com pretty soon, but until then, you can view my artwork at:

It's not the best. But it's all I can do at this point. I haven't had any instruction (classroom or self-taught) about the right way to draw manga style. So, this is going on simply what I have seen other people do and what I have noticed in the anime and manga I see. Feel free to comment on it. I want comments. Just realize though that I am proud of my work and if you are too harsh I will take offense.
Anyway, enough procrastinating for today. I must return to my scheduled tasks for the day. Peace out my friends!

   YATTA!!!
Hahaha! I have finally decided what character I am going to cosplay as this year! A long and arduous task it was too. The process went as follows:
1 - Nominations were made as to which characters i could possibly effectively portray. In the runnings were Gaara from Naruto, Hitsugaya from Bleach, Shugo from .hack, Itachi from Naruto, and Dio Elaclaire from Last Exile.
2 - A committe was formed of the best minds in the business of knowing me.
3 - It was determined that the character i would be portraying should be about the same size and shape as me (short and kinda skinny-ish), have a personality similar to mine of one I could easily pull off, and be a unique character which would not be repeated by many of the people at the conventions. This debate simply concluded that Itachi was ruled out due to sheer volume of cosplayers and Dio Elaclaire was ruled out because he is too tall and a little too skinny.
4 - With only three characters left on the roster, Gaara, Hitsugaya, and Shugo, a subcommittee was formed to debate over the final decision. This debate was to continue for about a month before a character was finally chosen. This character was Shugo.
5 - Upon selection, the character choice of Shugo was submitted to the House floor to await a 3/4 majority vote in favor. The vote was passed and the results were unanimously in favor. The president is subsequently overlooked due to his indifference in this matter.
Thus, I now come to you, my wonderful otaku bretheren (and sister...uh...sisterthen), with great pride to announce that my cosplay for the year of 2006 will be Kunisaki Shugo of the anime .hack//Legend of the Twilight!

*sigh*
Well, today wasn't nearly as bad as i had anticipated it would be. I didn't end up going and reading in the memorial service, and i didn't choke up like i had thought i would. Being a visual person as i am, i got the most choked up last night when i went over to my grandparents' house to visit. Being in the house with all of her stuff and little knick-knacks and knowing that she wouldnt be around anymore was realy got to me. Anyway, the day is over and i survived. Now, i need to get back on an airplane and fly back to Arkansas where nothing but stress awaits me for the next two weeks. Yay! Heh heh. It's not that bad really. My finals are going to be easy and none of my classes require much work at all. If i can just make it though tomorrow it will all be cool.

Home Again
Yes, although i was just here last week for thanksgiving, i have once again returned home. And, unlike most times i come home, this time i don't want to be here. I'm here for my grandmother's memorial service. *sigh*
It's not a fun thing. It's like this entire weekend has a black shroud over it. And it does. It's depressing. My normal way of dealing with problems is to "escape" from them. I like to get my mind off of them and deal with them in a timely and slow manner without letting them get to me. This is completely different. There is no place for me to go. Nothing to take my mind off this weekend and it's activity. I just don't know what to do. It's painful. And, on top of this, my family wants me to participate in the memorial service as well. They want me to read a poem my mother wrote. This is not helping at all. I feel like all this pressure has put on me and i don't know if i can take it. I need prayer. My family needs prayer. God help me!
