Another Post About Nothing

Yay! It's time for another "Post About Nothing!" I got a pretty good response from it last time. So, I guess you liked it. Kaitoutankuki41 said it was “original.” But, I don’t know about that. Originality is more of an subjective thing than objective. She might think it to be original, but other people might not. I, for one, don’t find it to be all that original. I’ve seen this kind of thing done quite a bit, most notably on the television sitcom Seinfeld. It’s known as the “show about nothing,” and truly is about nothing. That also happens to be where I got the whole rye bread discussion. Anyway, thank you Kaitoutanuki41 for saying my post was original, but it wasn’t. It is simply based on something else. Perhaps it is original as far as blog posts go, but in the whole scheme of the universe, this idea has been done before. So, go watch Seinfeld! It’s a great show, and one of my very favorite sitcoms.

Sitcoms are really quite good too! I love sitcoms. As far as television goes, the three types of shows I watch the most (in this order) are sitcoms, dramas (such as Lost, CSI:, and Battlestar Galactica), and adult cartoons. I watch more sitcoms than I probably should. My favorite ones (in no particular order) are Scrubs, Seinfeld, Two and a Half Men, How I Met Your Mother, According to Jim, Friends, and M*A*S*H. All are wonderful shows. In fact, one of those shows was recently honored by Entertainment Weekly in their recent article about the top 84 (interesting number, eh?) shows on television. In the sitcom/comedy category, Scrubs came in at the number one spot! Isn’t that spiffy? I think so. Seinfeld and Friends were also honored. They came in at the number two and three slots in the “Best Shows of the 90’s” category. They were only beaten by Roseanne. I don’t know what EW was thinking when they did that one. Who would have though Roseanne to be the best show of the 90’s? It’s not even syndicated! You can’t watch it on television anymore because nobody’s playing it! While, Seinfeld and Friends come on daily on multiple different channels, including major network channels. You don’t even have to have cable to watch them. Good luck doing that with Roseanne. The truth is, Roseanne wasn’t that incredibly popular, and still isn’t. It should not be number one in that category, Seinfeld should be, followed by Friends, and then if you really feel like it you can stick Roseanne in the group at number three. No higher though. In the drama section, the three drama shows I mentioned earlier all came in in the top five! CSI: was number three, BSG was number four, and Lost was number five! They were beat by 24 at number one, followed by The Sopranos.

Speaking of college basketball, I haven’t really been watching my weekly anime releases very much lately. Since I’m stuck behind this stupid university filter, I can’t use bittorrent or IRC like I normally would be to get my anime. I have to go through an FTP server or a direct download site. That’s irritating too. Not all the series I watch are available for direct download. But, I’ve told y’all this before I think. What I really don’t understand though is why they feel like they have to limit us anyway. Why can’t I use bittorrent? What’s so bad about it? Why am I blocked? I don’t get it. I’m even more mad about the whole IRC blocking thing. IRC, unlike BT, does not eat up bandwidth. It’s a very efficient way to transfer files. I also know I’m one of the few people on my campus who actually uses it. It’s just not popular anymore like it used to be. Internet chat rooms just don’t exist like they did before. In fact, the only people who really use it anymore are otaku-folk and internet tech support. I’ve used it multiple times for help with VLC and other related programs when I needed help. And yet, they block the file transfer capability. WHY!? So, if you are a very kind individual who watches one of the following shows weekly and wouldn’t mind getting on AIM sometime and letting me leech off of you, I would be most grateful. The series are: Blood+, Black Cat, Mushishi, Fate-Stay Night, Tsubasa Chronicles, and Bleach. Also, if you happen to know of direct download sites for any of those anime, that would be even more useful since direct download is faster than AIM transfer.

So, in conclusion, don’t eat bad figs, for the consequences of such an action are worse than one would imagine. Have a great day y’all!

All right, I was bored so I thought I would do another wallpaper. Hope y'all like this one as much as you liked "ContentEd"! That wallpaper racked up over 100 downloads in just one day! HAHA! I'm quite pleased with it's acceptance! I hope for the same kind of acceptance from this one. I don't think that it's as good as "ContentEd", but it certainly has it's strong points. I just don't like the whole vector look. The trees aren't real trees, they're vector trees. Let me know what y'all think about that. Do you think they would have been better had I used a picture of real trees? Also, about that starfield, are the stars too big? Should they have been smaller? Hey everybody! Sorry for not updating this site for quite some time now with interesting stuff. Yes, as you might have noticed, the Confucius thing didn't really work out, I had hoped it would, but I just don't have the time management to get a quote like that put up every single day. So, since it's not going to be an everyday thing, screw the whole just using Confucius. It's too confining. There are so many other good quotes out there. Yes, Confucius' stuff is quite interesting, but most of it tends to be about the same kind of stuff. We need some variety people!

Anyhoo, the reason I haven't posted in a while is because I have been on spring break and was too busy not doing anything to do something. Yeah... So, to summarize the break, it was relaxing. It was nice to be home with my family and pooches. I went to my college group at church on both Sunday and Wednesday night, I watched movies (V For Vendetta and Paradise Now), I hung out with friends, I found great deals on anime at Half Price Books (3/4 of Boogiepop Phantom for $7! HAHA!), saw my sister's theatre competition (they didn't win because they got screwed over by the blind judge! T_T), and went back to my previous university of residence to hang out with my friends down there. I even went to classes for a day with one of them. It was fun. That's about the extent of my break. Not too eventful, just like I like it.

I did have time to create two wallpapers over the break though. One is posted below and the other is posted at the top of this post. Please, comment on them! I need comments in order to become a better artist. That also goes for the fanart I have posted in the fanart section. I guess people don't really take me seriously when I say I want comments. Trust me, I won't be hurt by what you say. An artist grows though criticism. If looking at the picture makes you want to spit on your screan because you think it sucks so much, tell me! If you love it so much you would be willing to pay me for a print, tell me! Especially if it's the latter of those, I always need money. ^_^ So, comment comment comment. Thanks! A Little Update


All right, I had originally said it was just going to be a quote every day, but I have decided to change that a bit. Ya see, while doing my researchk, I came across some of the quotes, anecdotes, proverbs, what-have-you of Confucius. I was quite astounded at the quality of his sayings! I had never really studied much of Confucian philosophy or anything, so this was all pretty new to me. So, since I was so impressed at what I found, both in quality and quantity, I have decided to, rather than having it be just some random quote every day, to have it be a Confucian quote every day! Yay! So, every day, for as long as I feel like doing it or as long as I have qotes to put up, you shall receive a tidbit of wisdom from China's most influential philosopher! So, enjoy!

In other news, the woman who I hired to sew my hat for my Shugo costume this year has finally finished it! Check it out! Haha! It's awesome! She's really quite good isn't she? There was a little mixup near the end. Somehow I hadn't sent her all the pictures of the hat and all she had was a back view. So, she had left off the earflaps and the symbol in the front. That was easily fixed. So, all is well! And, she did it for a great price too! Only $25! Is that not spiffy or what?! Heh heh. I'm quite excited! This costume is gonna be sweet! Greetings all. I apologize for it being so long since last I posted. Just the way things go. Don't worry, It's not because I've been busy. It's quite the opposite. It's because I've been extraordinarily bored. Not much has really been happening and therefore there hasn't been much for me to post about. So, this is a nothingness post. A post completely and totally started with the intention of posting about nothing. It's meant just as a filler.

So, lets see... what can a post about nothing really be about? How would you post about nothing? These are the thoughts that were running through my head at the start of this post. And, I gotta tell ya, it's hard. I don't know how Seinfeld did it. An entire show about jack squat. And yet, even though it was at the end about nothing, it is one of the most highly regarded sitcoms of all time (and personally one of my favorites, if not my favorite). It had to have been extremely difficult to come up with subject matter. Or, maybe it was exactly the opposite! Hmm... thats another little spin on things. What if, because there wasn't anything restricting the writers (like a theme or ongoing plot) it was easier for them to come up with material to fill the episodes. They were able to make entire shows about such topics as soup, double dipping, losing your car in a parking garage, getting the last piece of rye bread, and the like. Other shows don't have that kind of freedom. Yes yes! I like this! It was easier for them to come up with content since there was nothing restricting them! HAHA! A revelation has occurred! Yay! I mean, how funny and awkward would it be to make a Star Trek episode about going ot the store for rye bread? It'd be hilarious! It wouldn't work. A total flop.

But then, rye bread is some very good bread. I could see trying to make an entire episode of a show about rye. It's intricacies, it’s texture, taste, consistency, versatility, etc. Rye bread can go with a lot of different kinds of things! You can put it with your steak, soup, make a sandwich with it, even use the loaf as a makeshift football when the occasion calls for it. The hard exterior of the loaf lends itself quite well to this kind of use. Although, rye is not necessarily the best thing to use for such a thing as football. For football, the accepted thing used is a small elliptical ball made from leather. Rye bread doesn’t work quite as well as the traditional football, it doesn’t get the same kind of spin and can lead to conflict on the field. Just think about how it would look with field full of 300 lb linebackers chasing around a small loaf of rye. Amusing, yes. Productive, no. It would disappoint the entire crowd to see this happen.

A lot of people pay big money to go to football games to see a bunch of men in tights (most are overweight) throw around a leather ball. This is something I don’t necessarily understand. I guess I never understood the whole attraction to team sports in general. Our culture seems to have some sort of an unhealthy preoccupation with it. It’s gotten to the point that to be considered a heterosexual male you have to play some sort of team sport, or at least be interested in them. I don’t find them all that interesting at all. I rather spend my time doing art and looking at art. This, in our American society, makes me gay. I can’t tell you how many times I have been accused of being gay. I’m not, but due to the fact that I don’t like sports and love art makes me gay apparently. Absolutely despicable. Of course, this kind of treatment only makes me hate the whole thing even more. Now, I don’t just dislike the games themselves, I dislike the players. It’s just sad. I only wish there were some way I could fix this little issue. Sometimes I wish I could just slap America in the face. But, alas, I cannot.

Well, there you have it, my post about nothing. Maybe it’s not, but maybe it is. I’ll leave that for you to decide. But, I’m not just going to let this post be completely without productivity. I’ve decided to add a little twist to my posts. Since I got some pretty good feedback about my quotations post, I’m going to start posting a daily quote, whether or not I actually have a post for the day. I figure it sounds pretty interesting, I think it’ll keep you coming back, and it gives me something to post every day! So, enjoy the first Quote of the Day, and have a great one!

The Academy Awards Winners!
Well, tonight was an interesting night at the Academy Awards. I have been thinking long and hard (ever since 10:30) about how to most accurately sum out the feel of the evening. And, alas, I have come to the conclusion that THE ACADEMY MUST HAVE BEEN HIGH WHEN THEY PICKED THESE WINNERS!!! HAHAHAHAhahahaha! That's about the only way I could think to sum it up, truly! Some of their picks were nothing less than insanity!

To start off, the award for Best Picture was a total upset! Everyone thought that Brokeback Mountain would come out with the win. I feared that outcome the most. I even had an entire post ready about how America had lost all it’s morals and decency. Fortunately for you, I don’t have to show you that post! Heh heh! Aren’t you happy? Well, not only did Brokeback Mountain not win, but neither did Munich (my personal pick). Rather, the award went to the underdog of the category, Crash. Nobody saw this one coming. Nobody. I was surprised as hell! I had thought for sure Brokeback Mountain would take the win. So, yet again the Academy has proven to be unpredictable. THEY WERE HIGH!

And, even more surprising than Crash winning Best Picture, was the award for Best Original Song. THEY WERE HIGH WHEN THEY PICKED THE WINNER FOR THIS AWARD! I really can’t stress that enough, it’s the only explanation I can find for the total insanity of their pick. Rather than picking the nice upbeat country song “Travelin’ Thru” by the voluptuous Dolly Parton, or the mellow and subdued tones of “In The Deep” written for Crash. No, neither of those perfectly sane picks were chosen. Instead, they picked the song “It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp” written for the movie Hustle & Flow and performed by 36Mafia. Shock ran through the entire crowd in the Kodak theatre when this award was announced. Total shock. Queen Latifah chuckled when when she opened the envelope. Jon Steward couldn’t get over it the entire evening. For his next few announcements, he began them with some comment about “It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp” or 36Mafia. I was a little more than surprised, I was aghast. I was speechless. Eventually I managed to scream out “I CAN’T BELIEVE IT!” Because, I really couldn’t. It was insane. Never has an Oscar been accepted by someone wearing oversized jeans riding down at their thighs and a baseball cap on their head. It was a hilarious sight to see! HILARIOUS! Not even the great Douglas Adams could write such insanity! This will forever go in the Oscar annals as one of the biggest flubs of all time, if not the biggest. THEY HAD TO HAVE BEEN HIGH!!!

Next, I was rather bummed and surprised by the award for Best Makeup. The award was given to The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. This in itself isn’t a bad thing. The makeup in that movie was well done, for that I’ll give them credit. But, when compared to the makeup displayed in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith it’s is put to shame. Even I, a man untrained in the art of stage makeup, could see that the talent and effort displayed in the makeup of Star Wars clearly surpasses that of Narnia. It was simply an award given to the wrong movie.

As a true anime fan, I must lament at the award given out in the category of Best Animated Film. I was hoping that Hayao Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle would take home that award. Rather, it was given to Wallace & Grommit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. Again, like the last award, this is not a bad decision. I respect the filmmakers of Wallace & Grommit and give them congratulations for a job well done. I simply think that Howl’s was better. But, I’m a little biased. Heh heh.

Another award that was given to the wrong person was the award for Best Original Score. The award was given to the composer behind the music of Brokeback Mountain but I believe that John Williams deserved it for his work on Memoirs of a Geisha. I felt that the soundtrack to Memoirs of a Giesha was so perfectly done. It was emotional and yet at the same times subdued enough not to take away from the action on screen. It captured, perfectly, the mood and setting of the movie. In my opinion Mr. Williams deserved that Oscar. I’m sorry Mr. Williams! But, I must give credit to the composer of Brokeback Mountain. It is an entertaining and well done score. I am not disappointed that he won the award. It could have been worse.

Lastly, I must inform you about the greatest tragedy to befall the Academy Awards this year. You might be thinking, “How could anything beat the award for Best Original Song?” Well, the only thing that could beat is is the fact that THE BEST MOVIE OF THE ENTIRE YEAR DID NOT RECEIVE A SINGLE AWARD AT THE OSCARS!!!! Munich, a great and powerful movie depicting the journey of a group of Israeli assassins in the aftermath of the 1972 summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany. It was, arguable, Steven Spielbergs greatest cinematic masterpiece since Schindler’s List. It was powerful, there was incredible character development, it almost made me cry, it spoke volumes about the state of both our nation and the world, and it didn’t receive a single award. NOT ONE!!! What could be worse than this? Sigh. IT was a horrible tragedy. THEY MUST HAVE BEEN HIGH!!!

Now, not everything that happened tonight was a tragedy. Many awards were given to movies and actors which truly deserved them. I was quite pleased with every other award that was given out this evening. It was great. I picked pretty well this year I think. Well, with the exception of the insane picks which I just told you about. I haven’t completely lost faith in the academy awards. I did manage to see one flaw in the evening though, apart from the awards. In the Memoriam that they do each year to those in the film business who have passed away, they forgot someone. Don Knotts died last month on the 24th from heart complications. He is the beloved actor who portrayed the loveable character Deputy Barney Fife in the 1960’s television sitcom “The Andy Griffith Show.” He also played many roles on film as well including Mr. Limpet in The Incredible Mr. Limpet and Dr. Jesse W. Heywood in The Shakiest Gun in the West. He also played Ralph Furley in the television sitcom “Three’s Company.” He was a great actor and comedian. He will be missed.
