Stuck

Don't knock the weather. If it didn't change once in a while, nine out of ten people couldn't start a conversation.
- Kin Hubbard

Greetings All! I’m sorry for not having posted in a while and for not visiting any of your sites in some time. I’ve been snowboarding in Keystone, CO for the past week and I gotta tell you it has been a blast! ^_^ This is (I think) my 4th year snowboarding and this year marks a pretty big year for me. Up until this point I have been, what I consider, a “new” snowboarder. Basically that means that I couldn’t move easily past a mid-level blue run. But, this year marks my move from new to average. I conquered every blue run I attempted, and I even went down a black run and made it down in one piece with only one fall! YAY! I LOVE Keystone! Such a great mountain. I loved it so much that my dad decided he’d like to go back there next year when he can actually get on the mountain. As you read in the last post, he has been incapacitated due to a tumble off a roof. So, he just watched me and my family snowboard while he stuck around at the base and did I-don’t-know-what. Kinda sucks for him I think. But, like I said, he wants to go back. So, It’s not a total loss. ^_^

White-Out
Well, as fun as my snowboarding trip was, I was ready for it to end. By the end of the three days of boarding, I was sore all over my body and I sustained only one mild injury. I fell on my knees a few too many times and thus my left knee has started to swell up and bruise. Not a pretty thing. It’s started to get all black and purple. But, It does not appear to be very serious, so only if it actually gets worse will I have it looked at by a doctor. But, even though I was ready for the trip to end, it has not yet. Right now I’m stuck in a Hampton Inn off I-25 in Colorado Springs. The day we left Keystone was the day that the worst winter storm of the season hit Colorado. It’s become a full-fledged blizzard and they have closed the interstate. So, we can’t leave. Heck, we couldn’t even go out to get food. The picture for this section is me walking back to our hotel from a gas station down the street with snacks that we ate for dinner. We are stuck here in Colorado Springs until the authorities decide to open the interstate and let us go. This has turned out to be less than convenient. I still have yet to do any of my Christmas shopping. I figured out yesterday at breakfast that this coming Monday was Christmas. I had thought I had a week left or so. Time flies when you are going thru finals and such. So, I need to get back home to Dallas as soon as possible. Christmas shopping awaits. But, in order to get back to Dallas I-25 has to open up. And right now there is no indication that it will be open anytime soon. We’ll see how it goes.

Conclusion to a Good Semester
Well, all of my final grades have been reported. I was a bit worried after a couple of my finals that I would not be able to make the 3.5 that I was shooting for. Well, actually I was shooting for a 4.0, but about 4 weeks before the semester came to a close I realized that with some of the grades that I had earned in my Western Civilization class would not allow me to possibly make it to an A. So, my new goal was to get over a 3.5. Unfortunately I wrote off that Western Civilization class a bit too early. When I got my grades back, I had managed to earn an A- in that class. I was really surprised! I hadn’t expected anything over a B. And, after my performance on the final exam I was worried about even making that. But, all worked out somehow I guess. The rest of my grades fell into place just like I thought they would. I got 3 A’s in my Graphic Design 1, Animation, and Digital Imaging courses and I got a B+ in my Mass Media course. So, with 3 A’s, an A-, and a B+ my GPA for the semester comes out to a whopping 3.8! YATTA! That pushes my cumulative GPA up to nearly a 3.4. I was so happy. ^_^ Now, lets just hope next semester can go as well as or better than this past one. My goal still remains a 4.0!

Well, with that I am finished. I have run out of things to say and I can ramble no more. Thus, I shall bid you all a wonderful day and I’ll see ya ‘round TheO! Sayonara!

Finals Week

We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.
- Sir Winston Churchill

Greetings All! I hope you’re all having a wonderful day! Mine’s been rather dull. Today was a “dead day” for me. Which, for all you who haven’t made it to college yet, means that I had no finals or classes today. It was a day I could do anything with. I hate those. I really do. Of course, I took the opportunity to sleep in. It was nice. I slept in ‘til something like 1:00pm. Yeah, I’m lazy. ^_^ Unfortunately, I waited too long to go get lunch so the cafeteria closed without me ever actually getting there. So I made myself some ramen for lunch and enjoyed it while sitting in front of the two Family Guy episodes I taped from last night’s Fox lineup. My lunch completed, I sat down to study for my Mass Media final tomorrow. That continued though to dinnertime. After dinner I went over to the art building to continue work on my movie trailer assignment for my Digital Imaging course. And now that brings me here. Yay! So, yeah, a dull day. The entire past week has been like that. *sigh* I want finals to be over so I can get home and have something a little more interesting to type about. Grr… Eh, it’s just a matter of time. On with the post!

Snowbound… Maybe
The plan for the weekend after I got back home from finals was that my dad and I would be heading to Keystone, Colorado to go skiing/snowboarding. We do this every year and it is one of the parts of the Christmas break that I look forward to the most. Unfortunately, that plan may have been foiled by gravity. My dad went down to east Texas this past week to work on my handicapped grandmother’s house. It was in need of repair, I think still from problems left over form hurricane Rita, but I’m not sure. Anyway, he was attempting to do some repairs on the roof, and as he stepped off the ladder to get his legs up there, he managed to loose his grip and ended up falling 10 feet from the roof down to the concrete driveway, badly spraining his ankle in the process. This really sucks. We were afraid the thing was actually broken for a while, but after x-rays were taken, it was clear that it was, in fact, just a sprain. So, that’s good news. The bad news is that even though it’s just a sprain, it’s swollen up really badly and he’s having to keep it elevated. He can only make his way around the house with crutches. Needless to say, he’s in no condition to go skiing.

There is a slightly bright side to this whole conundrum, though. The hotel my dad had booked for the trip is unwilling give us a refund, so we either have to end up using it, or we just pay the price without going. I know, that’s not so bright yet, but let me continue. They are willing to possibly let us change the dates of our trip. So, we might be able to postpone the trip until later in the year. Or… if that doesn’t work out, I could just go with some friends and maybe my dad can tag along but spend most of his time in the lodge or whatnot. So, even through this whole accident, we might end up going anyway. That’s the good news. I’ll let you know of any further developments as I get them.

Movie Mayhem
With it being the week of finals and stuff, all I’ve had to do is study, pretty much. My classes this past semester were easy for me, so studying has been a cinch. I’ve had a lot of time to just hang around and do stuff. A good majority of this free time has, of course, been spent seeing movies. I’ve seen four movies this past week including Fast Food Nation, the movie with Cherami in it. She was awesome! She did a wonderful job. I also saw The Fountain, Apocalypto, and Blood Diamond. All of those were incredibly good movies as well.

I loved The Fountain. It was very well done and really made me think. It’s one of those movies that doesn’t neatly tie everything in a bow for you. You have to think about it to figure out exactly how it ended and what was going on. Some of it takes place back during the conquest of the Americas and involves a Spanish conquistador, some of it takes place in the present time, and some of it takes place in the far future. All of these times are drawn together through the love of the two main characters played expertly by Rachel Weisz and Hugh Jackman. Funny thing, both of those actors are British and yet both of them were told to act in American accents for most of the movie. HAHA! Why didn’t they just set the movie in England? Heh. It was a great movie and I suggest it to anyone who likes a good mind bender. But, see it quick, it’s leaving the theatres very soon.

Apocalypto was INCREDIBlE! Gah! Mel just doesn’t know how to make a bad movie. It was amazing. It really set up this Mayan world for you; it drew you in. The characters were deep and you really started to care for them by the end of the movie. The story itself was excellent. As I said when I commented on EW’s review of the movie, it’s not the kind of movie you need to drink one of those large overpriced sodas during. Cuz there isn’t a moment in that entire movie that lends itself to a bathroom break. I speak from personal experience of course. I was in pain at the end of the movie. In serious pain. I do caution you all though. Yes, I do recommend this movie, but it is excessively violent in parts. A few examples of this: they actually show the human sacrificing, a man beans his head on a rock after jumping off a waterfall, and another man gets his face bitten off by a jaguar. There is more, but that gives you a pretty good idea of what to expect. So, if you don’t have a strong stomach or aren’t good at closing your eyes at the right time, this movie isn’t for you. View with caution.

Lastly, Blood Diamond was a good movie as well. It wasn’t nearly the all-out amazingness that Apocalypto was, but it was still incredibly good. It detailed one man’s struggle to survive during the 1990’s diamond conflict in Sierra Leone. As far as movies go, this one is one that is intended to inspire it’s viewers to take action. After coming out of the movie, I really wanted to go and help people in Africa. Some of the stuff that was shown in the movie was just wrong! There has to be something we can do to help these people. Nobody should have to live their entire lives in fear of being captured or killed by rebels. That’s just no kind of life. But, alas, I don’t know what could possibly be done. Yes, the major governments of the world could actually care a little about the plight of these people and take a little more action, but even that isn’t going to solve anything. It’s just a horrible situation over there. I pray for the people of Africa in general, but more specifically the people of the Darfur region of Sudan. They are living through hell, maybe our prayers can make their lives a little better. Go and see Blood Diamond.

Caesar1280’s Christmas List
Christmas is approaching. It’s approaching fast. I’ve been attempting to get myself into the “Christmas spirit” but have had no luck thus far. I’m just not ready for it, ya know? It’s stressful, it’s costly, and it’s not very relaxing. A holiday is for relaxing, not running around in a crazy mobs though department stores looking for that “perfect gift.” But, since I should at least try and get into the Christmas spirit eventually, I thought I’d add a little bit of what Americans feel Christmas is all about (whether they admit it or not); gifts. So, below is my Christmas list for the 2006 holiday. I hope you all get a kick out of it, and if you feel so inclined, feel free to purchase something for me! ^_^

Big News!

A man's homeland is wherever he prospers.
- Aristophanes

Greetings All! I hope you are all having a wonderful day! Mine’s been just fine -- nothing really incredible to speak of. I’ve been a little busy the past week or so working on a project for my mass media course. Thankfully, the presentation went well. My group presented on both board games and video games. We were required to tell their history, their current standing in society, and where we expect them to go. My part in the group was to research and present on the current state of board games. I was also put in charge or creating the PowerPoint presentation. All in all the entire thing went well, despite the fact that only a week before we were to present the professor cut the time we were allotted in half. We were originally given a whole 40 minutes of presentation time, but due to pressures beyond the control of anyone, we were only given 20. We persevered. I’m pretty sure we got an A.

On The Road Again…
Well, the past few weeks have been interesting in my family. A few major things have happened. The first and by far the most significant to me is the fact that my parents are moving. They’re packing up their things and hikin’ to Tennessee. My dad was offered a great job out there that he couldn’t help but take, so he did. It’ll be a little interesting for me since I will no longer be spending my breaks and summers at the place I have called home my entire life, Dallas, TX. All of my family is there, most of my friends are there, everything I am familiar with is there, so the move will be interesting. A bit of a challenge, but probably a good thing in the long run. Tennessee is a beautiful state and I look forward to spending time there. So, that’s the biggest news in my family. This has been all in the works for the past month or so. It’s been hard to keep it in, so now that my parents have given me the permission to spill it, I took that chance. ^_^

+1
Well, as I said, there were a few things that happened within my family within the past week. One was the move, but the second and last is the fact that there is now one more member to my family. The picture attached is of my newest cousin, Tyler, who was born on Novermber 28th, weighing nearly 9 pounds. We’re all very happy! Enjoy the cute pic! ^_^

Another Video!
I was reading in my Entertainment Weekly this week about the band My Chemical Romance, a band I had had little knowledge about. Well, I decided to do a bit of research into the band to figure out what it is that they actually play, and loved some of it! The following video is of their newest single entitled “Welcome To the Black Parade.” It’s a really cool and kind of upbeat song, but the music video is kinda dark. A very interesting mix. I hope you all enjoy it and I hope you all have a wonderful day! See ya ‘round TheO! Sayonara!

A Little More About Thanksgiving Break!

Patterning your life around other's opinions is nothing more than slavery.
- Lawana Blackwell

Greetings All! I trust you are all having wonderful days. My last few days have been pretty spiffy. They’ve been exactly how I thought they would be: laid back and boring. ^_^ I love it! I went shopping on the day after Thanksgiving (me and the rest of the civilized world). It was quite the experience. My purpose was pants. Men’s pants aren’t really what people go for on the day after Thanksgiving. Most people go for electronics, kids toys, or women’s clothing. That’s pretty much it. So, really, it wasn’t a problem finding what I was after. What was a problem was finding the best sales. And, surprisingly, the best sales I found were at JCPenney. Weird. I got three pairs of pants for less than $60. Also, while at JCPenney, I saw some really good looking shirts too. I eventually went and bought some of those after I told my mom about them and she gave me money. Thanks, Mom! So, yeah, I got what I needed with as few injuries as was possible. The day after Thanksgiving was a success. Now, let's just hope that the next few weeks go as well as the past few days have. The next few weeks entail finals and final projects. I'm scared. I MUST GET A 3.5!

I Miss My Hair
I like longer hair styles. I like them a lot. I like them much better than I like shorter hair styles. This is unfortunately a problem. My parents views are quite opposite. My mom is a fan of the military/athletic styles with hair as short as possible without being nonexistent. I have a BIG problem with this. I HATE those hair styles. Yeah, yer probably thinking “Why does he even care what his parents think? He’s in college 300 miles away from home and can do what he wants.” For the most part you’d be correct, but with my hair I’ve always been under their control. When I go home with longer hair, I always get nagged and made fun of and ribbed until I eventually give in. It happens every time. This time was no different. They came in on my first morning home and sat on me until I said I would get a cut. I’d have fought it, but this was Thanksgiving break, a short break. If I can fight if off for such a short time, I’ve then got to fight it off for ALL of Christmas break. I don’t have that kind of stamina. I just can’t do it. So, I gave in quick this break. I gave in BIG TIME! I let them choose what my hair looks like. The way I see it, if we try to compromise, none of us are satisfied. But, seeing that I’ll be dissatisfied either way at least somebody should come out of the whole thing on top. So, I let them have their way with my head. My hair went from being nearly 4 inches long to less than an inch. I’m so sad! I HATE this! Why can’t I just wear my hair the way I want to!? Why can’t I just do what I want to do!? I WANT FREEDOM FOR MY HAIR! FREEDOM! The pic I have placed next to this section of the blog is of David Spade. The hair style he’s got is the one I really want. I think it’s nice, attractive, and cool. I just like it. So, there ya go Mom. That’s what I want. Does it really look that bad? No, I tell you, no. It looks fine. Give me my freedom!

Info On A Rising Star!
Here’s a little info on a new actress who will hopefully be making her way up the ladder in Hollywood. Cherami Leigh is a native of Dallas, Texas and is currently playing the part of Kim in the new film Fast Food Nation. I have not yet had the privilege of seeing the movie, but my sister has and she tells me that Cherami did a wonderful job. You’re probably thinking it’s pretty odd that I’m so interested in this little (current) Hollywood nothing. Well, I’m so interested because Cherami went to my high school and is a pretty good friend of mine. She’s just the cutest and nicest girl you’ll ever meet and she really is a phenomenal actress. I got to know her when I was in the theatre tech program. And, as impressed as I was impressed with her skill back in high school, I hadn’t ever thought that she’d really make it all that big. After all, making it big in Hollywood is INCREDIBLY hard. But, since she does have this chance and is starting to get herself inserted, I am going to give her all the support I can. So, please, go and see Fast Food Nation and especially be on the lookout for Cherami in future films! Good luck Cherami!

Well, that’s all I’ve got for y’all today. I hope you all have a GREAT week and I’ll see ya ‘round TheO! Sayonara!

Happy (Belated) Turkey Day!

Mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam,
Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home.
- John Howard Payne

Greetings all! I hope you’ve all had a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving! Mine’s been great! I had, by far, the best turkey I’ve ever tasted. Seriously. My parent’s used a recipe from Emeril and boy was that turkey tender and juicy. Gah! I wish you all could have tasted it. So good! Anyway, now that I’ve got you drooling, the rest of the day went wonderfully too. I watched the Purina Dog Show this morning. Pretty good. Cool dogs. Then, I watched the Dallas Cowboy game on Fox. They played well today. It was an entertaining game. I am a Cowboy’s fan. They’re a good team. I’m also a relatively big Tennessee Tittans fan as well. Well, I really can’t say I’m a fan of any one team. I don’t follow sports at all. It’s not my thing. But, I still root for those two teams more than anyone else. That’s about as far as it goes with me. Anyway, I spent the afternoon over at my aunt and uncle’s house. It was interesting. Small house, many people. Always a bad combination. ^_^ Yeah, it might have been packed to the brim, but it was still an awesome time. I had a blast and hope you all did as well. Thank God for Thanksgiving, am I right?

The Longest Drive
I had to drive home from college, naturally. This normally isn’t much of a problem. I only live about 4.5 to 5 hours away. So, yeah, not too painful of a drive. Unfortunately, the drive home on Tuesday night was the longest and most painful one I’ve had yet. It mostly had to do with my physical state at the time. Unfortunately I, being the slacker of a student that I am (just kidding ^_^), I procrastinated too long on a paper I had to write for my graphic design course. I had to stay up all night on Monday night working on it. Thus, I got no sleep at all. So, the drive home had to be completely driven while sleep depreived. Bad idea. I couldn’t make it. When I started seeing blue things flying at me and little black things start dancing at the edge of my view, I pulled over and asked someone else to drive. Thankfully nobody else was in that kind of condition. Also, one of the girls I was taking back with me had wanted to help drive anyway, so that was easy. We got back with no further problems. Unfortunately it took forever! The normally 4.5 hour trip ended up taking 7 hours including dinner. It was weird and I didn’t like it. So that’s the story on the whole drive. Let’s hope for a better and more alert drive back, shall we?

Well, that’s all I got for you folks today. I wish you all a great rest of the week and I’ll type to ya soon! See ya ‘round TheO! Sayonara!

The 8 Unwritten Rules of Cosplay

I love acting. It is so much more real than life.
- Oscar Wilde

Greetings all! I hope you're all having a wonderful day! Mine's been interesting. My day started with work. I, once again, did well and raised $1200 in pledges. But, the most interesting part of the work day was that I won a contest which added two extra hours of pay onto my shift. So, it's like I worked six hours this moring, even though I only worked four. Spiffy, eh?

The following section of my post is an article I wrote which I had hoped to submit to TheO's article section. Unfortunately, when I went to submit it, I realized that the article section no longer exists. What's up with that?! I enjoyed reading the articles that people submitted. But, I only went there when TheO had a news event on submitted articles, which is why I haven't noticed that the section had been abolished. A little disappointing. But, since my article is finished and all, I figured I'd at least post it somwhere, so here it is. Enjoy!

*WARNING* *WARNING* *WARNING*
Some of the views expressed in this article can be taken as offensive. This is understandable. Just know that these views are mine and mine alone and they in no way reflect those of cosplayers in general. The purpose of this article was to simply aid in the creation and execution of EXCEPTIONAL and SERIOUS cosplays. Cosplay is still a fun and entertaining hobby. It is not meant to be taken seriously by any means, at least not by everyone. But, for those who wish to take cosplay seriously and create and display some amazing costumes, these rules may be helpful. I apologize in advance if this article is offensive to you in any way.
*WARNING* *WARNING* *WARNING*

The 8 Unwritten Rules of Cosplay
Well, up until this point they have been unwritten. My act of writing them down makes them the written rules of cosplay, and not the unwritten rules. I’d change the title, but unwritten just sounds so much cooler than written, don’t you think? But, the fact is I don’t care if they are written or not. What I do care about is good cosplays and ridding the world of bad (and sometimes painful) ones. Truthfully, that they haven’t been written before this is one reason why when you go to conventions you see so many horrible cosplays. People just don’t follow these rules. If people would follow them, I guarantee their cosplays would be exceptional. Because, a good cosplay is not all in how well the costume is made. There is so much more to it. So, for the aid of all who wish to try their hand at creating that perfect cosplay, here are the unfortunately slightly less than unwritten rules! Read and take heed!

1 – Money Is No Object!
When a good costume is at stake, you need to understand that money is no object. Yes, it is possible to create wonderful cosplays with very little cash. But, for those of us who are not so gifted with a sewing machine, money seems to fly out of our pockets faster than is physically possible. Costumes are expensive. It’s just a fact. Get used to it.

2 – Cosplay Takes Skill
Yes, it is possible to create a costume with little effort. Sometimes you can go with almost no effort at all and just order a custom fit costume off the internet. That’s easy, but then your costume isn’t very unique is it? To make a truly unique and personal costume requires skill. You have to have some knowledge of sewing, you need to be creative and know where to find things that you need for your cosplay. You can’t create a good costume if you don’t have the skill set to manage it. If you don’t think you are skilled enough to make one yourself and don’t want to pony up the dough to buy one online, it’s better for you not to cosplay at all.

3 – Let Your Costume Take Priority
This is a big issue with many costumes. People just don’t put enough effort into them. It really gets on my nerves, too. Hell, if you’re going to do a cosplay, do it right. Don’t slack off and accept mediocrity. If you don’t have the drive to put together a quality costume, just don’t do one at all. A costume is NOT a requirement for you to attend a convention. It is also not a requirement for you if you are interested in anime. It is just something that people enjoy doing. Don’t feel pressured to do a costume. It’s not for everybody. But, if you do decide to do one, go all out and make it look good. Also, even if you are really interested in doing a costume but you don’t have the time to put to creating it, you should put it off. Don’t do a costume unless you have enough time to making it look good. Don’t accept mediocrity. People don’t care about mediocre costumes.

4 – Pick the Right Character
That’s right, you can’t just pick any character. When picking a character think about it a bit, think about how you relate to the character, and think about how you and the character are the same and how you differ. Make sure that the one you eventually choose is in some way similar to you. This means that if the character you wish to do is small and timid but you are large and loud, you’re not a good match. A cosplay is more than just a good costume; it’s a whole character. When you put on a costume, you become the character and should therefore at least share some sorts of traits with it.

Now, crossplay is a different story though. Anime being the way it is, genders are flexible. The best Naruto cosplay I’ve ever seen was done by a female. You do not have to share the same gender with your character to pull it off well. Just make sure your personalities and body shapes are a match and you’ll be golden.

5 – If It’s Been Done Before, Don’t Do It Again
Yes, we all love InuYasha, we all love Naruto, and we all love Ed Elric. But, we’re all tired as hell of meeting them. Yeah, they’re great characters and all, but if there is another character out there that really fits you and your personality, choose that other character and not one that’s been done hundreds of times before. I’m tired of seeing FMA photo shoots where fifty percent of the characters in them are Ed. It’s just too much. A cosplay ceases to be interesting, even if it’s done well, when we’ve already seen it done over and over again in the past. Again, be creative with your character choice and conventions will become much more interesting.

This is also the case in groups. Most people who go to conventions go in groups. This is good. It adds to the social aspect of conventions and makes them happier and more exciting places. But, when you go in groups and hang out together, don’t all have cosplayed the same character. It’s understandable that when you go to a convention there is a high likelihood that someone else has chosen to do the same character as you. This is unavoidable. But when I see three Sakuras walking around in the same group, it’s just wrong. Communicate between each other and pick different characters. It’s not hard.

6 – Be Creative
A costume does not have to match the character perfectly. In fact, you can distort the costume completely and still have it come out wonderfully. Be creative in your execution. Of course, this is not necessary. Many times, sticking to the character design exactly is best, but other times creative license is acceptable. If you want to create a female version of a male character, go for it! The same goes for female characters turned male, although those aren’t as popular. Sports styles, casual styles, formal styles, all of these can be employed when you create your costume. The only stipulation is that if you decide to distort your character’s costume, make sure the character is still recognizable. If the character isn’t recognizable it’s not a costume; it’s weird clothes. Be careful.

7 – Act the Part
When at a convention cosplaying, make sure to act like your character. Make us believe that the character has hopped off our screens and is standing in front of us. This makes for an interesting and dynamic cosplay. Again, if you are a loud and flamboyant type person, but the character you picked is quiet and shy, you’ve picked wrongly. If your character is known for doing something, then do it. If your character has a special catch phrase or adds one of those nifty suffixes on the end of all it’s sentences, say it and don’t be shy about it. Also, don’t hop in and out of character. If you’re dressed up and on the convention floor, be in character. If you’re tired of acting the part, go change. Cosplaying is more than dressing up; it’s becoming a character. Actions are part of a character too. Make us believe you are the character and we will think higher of you and your cosplay ability for it.

8 – Bathe
Yes, some cosplays can be hot, sweaty, and uncomfortable, but we don’t all have to know about it. If a costume is exceedingly hot, take a good shower at least twice a day. I’m tired of standing in line with or sitting next to somebody who smells like the inside of my addidas after a hard day of tennis. It’s just nasty. There is a stereotype that convention goers have bad hygiene and don’t take good care of themselves. I realize this isn’t the case for most people and that it is the cosplays that cause all the smell. But, since that fact is readily apparent, at least try to fight it by bathing regularly. A clean and odorless cosplayer is a good cosplayer.

A Special Treat
After that wonderful article which I hope you all enjoyed (in other words, please don't hurt me), I have a special treat for you. The following is a music video of my favorite artist, Imogen Heap. This is the music video for her single entitled "Headlock." I thought you might like it, so I decided to post it. It is a bit trippy though. Enjoy!

I hope you all have wonderful days and I'll see ya 'round TheO! Sayonara!

Assorted Stuff In Some Way Relating To Me and the Way I've Lived My Life Over the Past Two Weeks. Yeah... It's Not the Most Intersting, But You're Reading It Anyway Aren't Ya? Gotcha There Don't I? Heh Heh!

There is no excellent beauty that hath not some strangeness in the proportion.
- Sir Francis Bacon

Greetings All! I hope you’re all having wonderful days. Mine was all right. I (finally) did well this morning at my job. I haven’t been doing so swell the past couple weeks. I was just off, I’m not sure why. But today I did well for a change, and I’m happy about that. I was starting to get worried. Heh heh! Also, for my movie plug of the week, everybody needs to go and see Babel. It’s by far the best movie yet this year and is DEFINITELY going to be nominated for at least one Oscar. It was incredible. Just be forewarned, one portion of the movie revolves around a teenage Japanese girl who decides it’s time start exploring her sexuality. There is nudity. Just, look past the nudity and see what is trying to be communicated and you’ll be impressed. Wonderful movie.

The King Is Back
That’s right, I’m back in the swing of things at work. BOOYAH! I was out of it for a while, not even managing to raise a full $200! Pathetic, right? I went from being the #1 caller to something closer to the #4 caller within a span of 2 weeks. It was horrible. I thought I’d never pull out of it. Fate had other plans it seems. On Saturday and then again tonight, I managed to raise $1000+. That’s good. Tonight in fact, out of the 8 people I talked to, 6 of them pledged, most of them were over $100 pledges. It was like a little affirmation that I hadn’t really lost it, it was just missing for a bit and now it has returned. Now lets just hope my dry spell is over for good! ^_^

Ramen Can Be Painful
On Sunday, while I was making Ramen for lunch, I spilt my boiling hot water. It dripped all down my hand and it hurt. I burnt my hand. Ouch…

Come On, Goban!
Well, this entire week I’ve been awaiting my goban (go board) to arrive in the mail. I won an eBay auction last Wednesday for it and it got here remarkably fast. It’s beautiful! It’s made of 2” thick Tibet spruce wood and is by far the most beautiful thing I have in my room… other than maybe my picture of InuYasha which it sits under ~_^. I kid. It really is more beautiful than my InuYasha pic. Heh heh! I can’t wait to play on it! I wanna play a game so badly I can hardly stand it! “sigh” I’ll get to play eventually. Patience (evil word). Now, the only thing I need to complete my go set is a pair of bowls. I still haven’t decided which ones I want yet. There are some beautiful date wood bowls on eBay that I saw which would look really nice. But, they’re a light reddish brown color, and I was kinda hoping to get some that were a little darker in color, but not too dark. So, I’m going to continue shopping around until the ones I am really offer find me. That’s the way it typically goes with me. I can look and look, I can even make bids, but what I really want will eventually find me. It happened with the goban, it can happen with the bowls.

Artistically Motivated
I’ve made a decision this week! Incredible, eh? I think so. Real decisions are rare for me. I don’t make them easily and many times I manage only to delay making them so long that whatever it was I was trying to decide on passes by or I just forget about it. This has happened 3 times while I’ve been trying to acquire an InuYasha plushie. The plushie I speak of is really quite awesome. It’s 12” tall and all chibi-like. Really cute! Anyway, I’ve seen it in multiple places. I first saw it a couple months ago at my local anime store. I was tempted to buy it there but one of the girls I went with wanted it too. So, since I hadn’t decided whether I wanted it or not, I let her take it. I then saw the same style plushie again a month later where I went back to the anime store. I still hadn’t made up my mind at that point, so I didn’t get it that time either. Then when I went to the convention last week, it was there too. At this point some people might take it as destiny that the plushie was meant to be theirs. Not me. I’m too dense. I delayed making the decision there as well, and by the time later that day that I decided I’d go ahead and get it, it had been bought. GAH! I’ll get it someday!

So, that just puts into perspective how amazing it is that I actually managed to make a decision this week. What is this decision? I’ll tell you. I’ve decided that when I go to my next convention down in Austin, TX next year that I’ll put some of my art in the art auction. This is a slight problem though. I only have one piece of art at this point actually worthy of going in the auction. So, I’ve decided (another decision!) to do more art before the convention rolls around. I got one piece started on Thursday last week. A flat shaded version of it is the pic that I have set for this section. If you can’t tell (and you should be able to) it’s of Kiba and his adorable poochy Akamaru being all happy and such. I like it,but at this point it is still only line art. I haven’t decided what I want to do with it yet. I’d like to make it look all nice and colored and shaded and stuff, but I’m not sure how to do it. I haven’t had ANY experience with shading on the computer, so it’ll be an adventure I’m sure. I have one other piece in mind to do for the auction. It shouldn’t be all that hard though. The hardest part will be the line art. Once the line art for that piece is done, the coloring should be a cinch, especially if I can manage shading on the computer with this Kiba piece before I get to the second piece. So, that’s my plan. I’d like to see how people respond to my skill level. If I make money, I make money. And, if I don’t, well it was worth a shot, am I right?

Deprivation
Yeah… I’m deprived in a couple ways: I’m deprived of sleep and exercise. The sleep part is only a current thing, in fact it’s just a today thing. Most nights I get plenty of sleep. But, last night was an oddity, kinda. But, to understand what happened last night, you’ll also have to understand that I am not in the best shape ever. I’ve started to get flabby, and I admit it. I need to lose some weight. Some of the pants that I was wearing easily at the beginning of the year are now starting to get a little tight, and I don’t like it. I need to start exercising. One of my friends, Joe, goes and exercises with my mass media professor on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 in the morning. I figured that I’d join them. Which bring me back to why I am sleep deprived after last night. I was up late working on an animation project that I foolishly procrastinated on and got to sleep at about 1:00. So, then I set my alarm for 7 so I’d have time to drag myself out of bed and stuff. I woke up at 7, but decided that I was too tired to go. I just hadn’t had enough sleep. But, unfortunately I never got all the way back to sleep. So, I’ve been functioning all day on only 6 hours of sleep (much less than my usual 8 - 9). Thankfully, I didn’t actually go though. Turns out, that my professor called my friend and informed him that he’d be unable to work out. My friend never called me to tell me this. So, if I had shown up, there would have been nobody else there and it would have been a waste of my time and effort. I’m going to try to go again though. I need to work out.

Well, that’s all I’ve got for today. In fact, that’s more than I thought I’d have. I rambled for far too long in some spots. So, I wish you all a wonderful day and I’ll see ya ‘round TheO! Sayonara!

I'm Running Out of Creative Titles

The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today. Let us move forward with strong and active faith.
- Franklin D. Roosevelt

Greetings All! I trust you are all having wonderful days! Mine’s not been the greatest, but it hasn’t been bad. I’ve been feeling a little down all day. When I went to the convention over the weekend, the group I went with had two sick people in it (yes, I’m talking about YOU Emma) and I caught a sickness from either of them. It’s not bad, it’s just a cough and a slight sore throat. I’ll survive. But, I did take tonight off from work. The last thing I need to do with a cough and sore throat is talk on the phone for four hours straight. Not smart. So, the day has been a little foggy (both literally and figuratively).

Borat Shmorat
Okay, here’s my review on Borat: IT SUCKED HARD! Don’t go see this movie! I went and “saw” it on Friday night after the movie I really wanted to see, Babel, still hadn’t made it to the theatres in my area. I should have just rented a movie and been content, but no, I had to go see Borat. You’re probably wondering what made this movie such a bad one, and that’s a really easy question to answer. In short, it’s the most offensive movie you’ll ever see. This isn’t like Passion of the Christ or Fahrenheit 9/11 in the way that they were offensive to just portions of the American public, this movie somehow manages to offend, grossly misrepresent, or simply gross out every facet of American life, and them some. Now, I’m pretty tolerant when it comes to movies. I’ll sit through something even if I’m not liking it for the most part. But, this one just pushed me over the top. I had to walk out. In fact, I should have left earlier than I did. I left at the point where Borat and his producer got into a naked hotel room fight after Borat caught him “pleasuring himself” to a Pamela Anderson photo. Yeah… so, save yourself the time and money and don’t go see that movie. DON’T LISTEN TO THE CRITICS! If they say it’s good, they’re just wrong. It’s not good. If you see this movie and actually like it, you should go see a psychologist, because there is something seriously wrong with you mentally. I give this movie an F-.

Cos-con Yes, that's me in the Kiba costume.
After cleansing my mind through sleep after my previous evening, I woke up at 6 AM on Saturday to get on the road to Cos-con. The drive itself was about 3 or so hours. It seemed longer though, since I was squished between two people in the back seat of a Honda. Talk about a lack of leg room. It was worth the disomfort though. Cos-con was an awesome convention. It was totally different than every other convention I’d ever been to. It was miniscule. I think there were only about 80 or so people (if that) who attended the con. By the end of the weekend I had met and talked to just about everyone there. I kinda liked that aspect of it. The only problem was that there wasn’t much to do. With it being such a small con, there were really no guests to speak of, no panels, nothing. The 24-hour anime room consisted of a 15” television screen and due to lack of popularity was shut down on Saturday night to make sleeping room for con staff. But, that in itself made the convention so much better! We got to actually socialize with our fellow con guests. I got to know a group of Naruto cosplayers pretty well. In fact, Emma (one of the girls from my group and the coordinator of our trip) has already begun making plans to attend Ikkicon next year with us and some people she met there at Cos-con. How cool is that?! Heh heh! Yeah, it was a good con. I managed to walk out with 4 new manga, a Chi keychain, and a commissioned art piece of Kiba and Akamaru for a total of just $25! Is that not the most awesome thing or what?! I’ll definitely go to this con next year. It was too fun to pass up.

Let’s Talk Capitalism
I wasn’t about to let my weekend, as far as movies go, be ruined by crap such as Borat. So after we got back from Cos-con on Sunday, I decided to head off to the movie theatre once more to see Flags of Our Fathers. Now that was a movie worth paying $8 to see. Incredible. It was a different take on war movies. If you hadn’t heard, it’s about the photograph taken of soldiers erecting a flag on Mt. Suribachi on the Island of Iwojima. More specifically, it is how that photograph impacted the lives of the 6 soldiers depicted in it. And, their experiences are directly related to American capitalism. After the photograph was taken, it immediately became an icon of hope to the despairing and pessimistic American public. It was a symbol of victory, of perseverance, of patriotism, and of strength. Naturally, the politicians in Washington who were in charge of raising funding for the war through the sale of war bonds weren’t about to let that get by them without capitalizing on it somehow. They did this by bringing the three surviving soldiers out of the battlefront and sending them on a nationwide ad campaign to advertise war bonds. The three soldiers were treated like heroes and celebrities while their buddies were still fighting back in the Pacific. Yes, they didn’t necessarily want to be doing what they were, but without their help the U.S. might not have been able to raise enough money to continue the war. The ad campaign for war bonds was the largest ad campaign in history, raking in a total of $45 billion for the war. Clearly, what they were doing worked. So, my question to you is this (and I would like to hear your feedback), was it right for the U.S. to use these soldiers for it’s own benefit? After all, they were in the service of the country, they had to do whatever they were told. The U.S. was not doing anything wrong. But, was it ethical for these soldiers to be brought out of the fighting and trotted out on display? Is this an example of capitalism gone wrong? Was there possibly a better way to go about raising the money for the war? I’m just curious. Let me know your views on this. No opinion will be looked down upon.

A Schedule for My Life
The week, up to this point, has been capped off by registration for next semester. I hate this time of year. Two years ago it brought about the “day from hell” when not only did I sleep through a test, but I also registered late, and broke my computer. If you want to know more about that just ask, but that’s not the point of this portion of the post. Scheduling for next semester went pretty smoothly. I got into all the classes I wanted to be in with the exception of photography, which is due to a scheduling conflict and couldn’t be helped. It wasn’t completely without hitches though. First of all, for some reason the university didn’t think I had taken two of my classes and therefore wouldn’t let me register for the courses which those classes happened to be prerequisites for. I had taken both of the classes though. So, I went to the registrar’s office to try and work this little problem out. One of them was just a little mixup and was easily fixed, but the other was a result of my own stupidity. Unfortunatey, I had never actually transferred the credits from my English course that I took over the summer. The university didn’t think I had ever taken it. And, how could they know any better? I had never told them, after all. Heh heh! So, the registrar let me enroll in that last class with the stipulation that I get those three credits transferred to them by January. And, I will. It’s just a little embarrassing is all. So, I will be taking 15 hours again next semester. I’ll be taking typography, graphic design II, evangelical theology, intro to philosophy, and American government. Should be fun. I look forward to it.

Well, with that I’ve run out of things to say. And, you’re probably getting tired of reading, so I’ll be done. I wish you all a wonderful and healthy day and I’ll see ya ‘round TheO! Sayonara!

A Boring Weekend... Maybe

But as in ethics, evil is a consequence of good, so, in fact, out of joy is sorrow born.
- Edgar Allen Poe

Greetings All! I hope you’re all having a wonderful day like I am. I love good days, don’t you? Well, I said I might have something more to post on after the weekend, and unfortunately I really don’t. Again, nothing much happened. After all, it was a weekend spent on campus. Not much really happens on weekends like that. So, I’m going to try and concoct a post out of very little. I’ve tried this before, but it hasn’t always worked out that well. But, who am I to allow myself to be beat by something as small as that? Nothing, that’s what. I’d never allow such a tragedy to befall me. I will make a post out of very little. It’s possible. So, here goes nothing!

A Friday Departed
Yeah, the title makes no sense, but I thought it sounded cool. Heh heh! Yeah. It was a slightly interesting Friday. Two things happened which are post worthy. The first is something that my university calls “Mock Rock.” It’s a lip sync competition. We had about ten groups of students who asked to be put in the show. They all got up in full costume and performed little acts of their choice and lip synced to the music. Some of the performances were just INCREDIBLE, but others weren’t. The best one, and the one that won the grand prize, was a group of two guys who got up and did a compilation of like 10 songs. The songs progressed through the decades and changes in genre. They started out with a Sinatra song, and then moved onward. After Sinatra was the Beach Boys, then the Rolling stones, and then a song by CCR, and well, you get the idea. The thing that made that act cool, was that as each portion of the song went by, they changed clothes to fit the genre and generation. It was HILARIOUS and very talented. They did an awesome job. I loved it. They definitely deserved the grand prize. Very cool. Another group of three guys got up and did a song from Saturday Night Fever. It was hilarious! And, they did an awesome job performing it. Another group did swing dancing to a ska song, and well you get the idea. It was really cool, and I look forward to it each year.

After the “Mock Rock,” I and a group of three of my friends went to see The Departed. Such a good movie. Mom, don’t go see it, you won’t follow a bit of it, but Dad if you are up for an incredibly good cop drama which keeps you guessing through the entire thing, go see this movie. It really is quite good and I suggest it to anyone who can handle some pretty serious violence. And, in my opinion, Leonardo DiCaprio’s performance could get him an Oscar nomination. It really was that good. So, I do suggest you all go see it. Half of my group enjoyed it. Aaron and I loved it, while Jessi and her roommate Lindsay weren’t so up for it. They said it was too violent and made no sense. And, I can see where they are coming from with the violence thing. There was quite a bit of it, and there was an abundance of cursing as well, but it did make sense. So, I guess they just didn’t follow the story all that well. Anyway, yeah that was Friday.

Some Days Are Bad
Yeah, Saturday didn’t go very well as far as work goes. I just wasn’t on the ball. The entire four hours I managed to raise only $45. Not all that good. Not good at all. So, that was a little bit of a downer and really didn’t get my day off to a good start. The rest of the day went fine, but it just didn’t seem like that good of a day, because of the morning. Bummer, eh?

The Matrix Had Me
Sunday was yet again a boring day. I was up until about 5 that morning because I was watching anime and reading Megatokyo. So, I wasn’t really in the mood to go to church. Instead, I slept in until about 2 and then decided to watch The Matrix. And, when I say I decided to watch The Matrix, I mean the WHOLE Matrix. That’s right, I watched all three movies, plus The Animatrix, in one continuous block. Very cool. I did it with a friend of mine named Joe. It went really well! It was a bunch of fun. After the first Matrix we left and went to get Chinese food. I had moo goo gai pan. It was good. Messy, but good. And, I got a new air freshener from Wal-Mart. The ones I had been using in my room just weren’t powerful enough to cut through the stench which typically hangs over the university at night. I’m not exactly sure about the origin of the ghastly odor, I’ve heard some say it’s stagnant water from a creek nearby, and I’ve heard others say it’s from a sewage treatment facility in the area. Either way, the stink descends upon campus every night and we all hate it. The little gel air fresheners I was using weren’t working, and thus I switched to something slightly more expensive that would work a little better. (fingers crossed)

All Hallowed Eve Festivities
Halloween is tomorrow. And, you all know what that means, costuming! Yay! I’ll be walking around all day tomorrow as Kiba from Naruto (just look at my avatar if you don’t know the character). It should be a fun day! My dorm is hosting a childrens trick-or-treat for the campus kiddies, so that should be fun as well. And, the Anime Club will be holding a party. We’ll meet in a lounge on campus and play DDR, possibly watch a movie, eat candy, and just be anime idiots dressed in costume. What else could you ask for on a Halloween night? I’m looking forward to it. But, one thing that most of you don’t know about is my plans for this coming weekend. This coming weekend, most of the Anime Club and a few others are going to be traveling to Norman, Oklahoma to attend Cos-con! It is a small anime convention. It’s gonna be a blast! There are something like 12 of us going. The convention only lasts two days, and there isn’t really a lot to do, but it will be fun anyway. It’s going to be so much fun! Heh heh!

Well, that’s all I got. Did that suffice for a post of a relatively boring weekend? I think maybe. Yes, yes, I think maybe. I wish you all a wonderful day! I hope you have an awesome Halloween tomorrow, and be safe! See y’all ‘round TheO! Sayonara!
