I need something new...
My Bar Mitzvah came and went, FMA ended, and now I'm... bored. I need something new to do, or at least to be obsessed with. I've found myself to be making AMVs all the time and I'm damn good at it (I still need to figure out exactly how to post them on the web). New hobbies aren't neccisary, I have tons of those. What I need is a long-term goal/interest to keep me going. June is going to be a great month for me, with the prom, the end of school, preparation for camp, and the first Death Note movie. And May is at least going to have Anime Boston. I just need a way to get through the next month-and-a-half.

I've always disliked 4Kids for their butchering of animes but this is going too far even for them. The fact that this man would say kids don't and shouldn't read despite the Harry Potter phenomenon and tons of evidence that reading is necissary for development is bad enough, but saying this stuff at a convention dedicated to comic books at a panel with lots of librarians in the audience is just plain rude. Oh, did I forget to mention 4Kids is going to butcher Pretty Cure? Just when I thought they were going to fade into oblivion, they license yet another long-running anime (and yet another choice that furthers Kahn's reputation as a closet pedophile). Believe me, if they license, say, Keroro Gunso or Bleach I'm going to kill Al Kahn...

Or just mail the directors of those anime a tape of the 4Kids hackjob and the calling card for the lawyer who got Warriors of the Wind banned and watch amused as the situation takes care of itself.

   DVD Report
Brief thoughts on the DVDs I got for my birthday:

Gunslinger Girl - I saw the first 4 episodes of this show at Anime Boston and am happy to own this series. I've watched all but the last 3 episodes and it's an amazing series. Very creepy and suspenseful in a Monster-esque way, but a lot cuter and a lot more tear-jerking. The special features on the DVD are pretty cool too (Laura Bailey is God). I'll probably write an essay on this show once I finish the series.

Fullmetal Alchemist Volume 2 - While I'm withholding "best show ever" statements until I've watched the entire series twice through, FMA is definately the most compelling show on the air right now. This volume contains some of the show's most intense episodes mixed in with some purely lighthearted ones and the introduction of Scar (coolest anime villain ever). This was actually the first time I saw the introduction of Hughes and the Barry the Chopper episode, so this was pretty new stuff to me even though I knew what happened in them before. This whole thing feels like a "Day of the Dead" celebration even in the happy moments, having seen the demises of Nina, Hughes, Lust, and Scar.

The Corpse Bride - I remember being pretty disappointed in this movie when it first came out, not being as good as The Nightmare Before Christmas and some of Tim Burton's live-action films such as Edward Scissorhands. I still don't think it's as good as those movies, but I was able to appreciate better on repeat viewing. With these types of stop-motion movies, just the fact that they were made makes them worth appreciating. I actually think this may have a chance at the Oscars, though I have a feeling it won't win.

Teen Titans Season 1 - Being canceled on Cartoon Network, having this show on DVD is a real treat. There are some great episodes here.
