N-Sider.com Mario Kart: Double Dash!! Competition

N-Sider.com is having a Mario Kart: Double Dash!! time trial competition, and I've been competing. The track is Yoshi Circuit, and the goal is simply to get the lowest time. So far I've gotten my time down to 1:49:815, using Toadette and Koopa on the Barrel Train, which places me in fifth. You can check out the scoreboard here, though that hasn't been updated for a bit. Currently it shows me in 7th, but my latest time would put me in 5th.

As you can see on that page, the prize for getting 1st place is a Flame GBA SP and Fire Emblem. I already have a GBA SP, but I'd really like Fire Emblem. (Though of course, I wouldn't refuse the SP, heh). I doubt I'll win, though. As you can also see, first place is about 2.5 seconds ahead of me, and it's becoming very hard to beat my ghost and get better times. But I'm hoping I can at least get into the top three. Wish me luck, eh? ^_^

Edit:
Make that 1:48:908, putting me into 4th place. If I can shave off another 1.5 seconds tomorrow, I'll be competing for 1st! Maybe I will win this thing after all, eh? Too bad I'm not in the PAL competition, though--I'd already be in 1st if I were.

Now Playing #18: .hack//SIGN - Key of the Twilight

I actually just happened to stumble upon this song while looking through my brother's mp3 collection. (Being on a network is nice--I can snag any of his mp3s any time I want, as long as his PC is on). I started listening to the .hack//SIGN music he had, and I really liked this song. The music sort of reminds me of Chrono Cross, and I like how the vocals are done. This is one of the few songs where I enjoy listening to both the words and the music equally. And as usual when I post up a midi of a song with lyrics, I've gone and found the lyrics to post in here. You'll find them below.

No, I mean below this, too; this is just to tell you to get off your butt and come listen to the new midi I'll be posting next Sunday.

.hack//SIGN - Key of the Twilight

Come with me in the twilight of a summer night for awhile
Tell me of a story never ever told in the past

Take me back to the land
Where my yearnings were born
The key to open the door is in your hand
Now fly me there

Fanatics find their heaven in never ending storming wind
Auguries of destruction be a lullaby for rebirth

Consolations, be there
In my dreamland to come
The key to open the door is in your hand
Now take me there

I believe in fantasies invisible to me
In the land of misery I'm searchin' for the sign
To the door of mystery and dignity
I'm wandering down, and searchin' down the secret sun

Come with me in the twilight of a summer night for awhile
Tell me of a story never ever told in the past

Take me back to the land
Where my yearnings were born
The key to open the door is in your hand
Now take me there
to the land of twilight

Church Christmas Party

Well, here I am, 10:48 PM on a Saturday night. I just got back from the Christmas party mentioned in the title, and now I feel like doing nothing but sitting and not moving for a while--which is exactly what I'm doing.

The Christmas party was fun. We decorated the huge Christmas tree in the highschool youthroom, and we each got to write our name on one of those colored class balls with colored glue stuff. (I went for green on a blue ball). While I had it hanging off my finger, waiting for the glue to dry, I just had to make the joke of "I've got ball." heheheh...

Then we had a mall hunt thing, where a few of the youth leaders kind of dressed up in disguises and wandered around the mall. Then we, in groups, had to go through and try and find as many of them as we could in an hour. My team got last place, lol. And after an hour of fast, constant walking in steel-toed boots, my feet were rather tired.

Next came dinner and dessert. Dinner was lasagna, with various side dishes that people brought, and desert items were also brought by the people attending. Only one other person had a piece of the cake I made. I think I'm going to have to poison it next time. ~_^

After everyone ate, there was a gift exhange thing with the small gifts everyone brought. It was the kind where you go up and pick something, unwrap it, and then hold onto it. And then someone else can either pick up another wrapped gift, or go and steal the one you're holding. Fairly amusing, but minorly annoying when someone stole the PlayStation game Parasite Eve from me. I'll just have to borrow it, though, if I want to play it. The guy that ended up with it doesn't actually have a PlayStation, he's just going to borrow one from a friend to play the game, so it shouldn't be too hard to snag it from him one of these days.

What I did end up with was a little tiny FM radio that fits in your pocket, which I'm using right now--and indeed, it's in my pocket, heh. Now I just need a smaller pair of headphones that aren't really bulky so I can actually take it places. My mom has asked for ideas for things to put in my stalking for Christmas, so I told her I'd like one of those little tiny pairs of headphones that fit down in your ears.

After the gift exchange, we had some time for worship and prayer and whatnot before people left at 10:00 PM. (This thing went from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, by the way). After it was officially over, one of my friends had some fun with the silly string that he got in the exchange. (which was actually what I brought--it had been sitting in my closet for years, lol). I couldn't get anyone to eat any of it, though. Too bad. ^_^;

And that brings us back up to the present time, which is now, according to my PC clock, 11:11 PM Pacific Time. Overall, a fun day. And I suppose I shouldn't complain that barely anyone ate my cake. That just means there's more left to eat myself, heh. And I think I'm going to give my friend the second bottle of silly string in my closet. Seems like he'll make good use of it. But that'll be another story for another day. ^_^

Goings On for the Day

Not all that much happened today, except for one important thing, and then something that probably holds no significance to anyone besides myself. But this is my site, so I'm going to tell about it anyway. If you object, well, [censored].

As I said, not much happened today. I got up, posted a bit on OtakuBoards, made coffee and toast for my (Des)breakfast...and ate it. I read ten chapters in my history book, but I still need to start the next chapter in chemistry. After school I played Zeldarius (yes, I'm back at that little game again) and managed to get a new high score, 18,165, as well as getting a perfect on the first level. (Meaning I killed every enemy in the level). Then I sort of just stood around in the kitchen waiting for the fren--ah, "freedom"--fries to cook before eating dinner. Exciting day, eh?

After dinner, though, we went out and got our Christmas tree -- which is that one thing I mentioned earlier. Me and my parents went back and forth between several tree lots around town trying to decide on what tree to get. I wanted a silvertip, but my parents said they were all too sparse... Which is the point of a silvertip. None of them are going to be as bushy as a noble fir, which is mainly what they were looking at. Finally I found one with enough branches to satisfy my parents while still not being too thick for my taste, however, so all turned out good. We'll probably put the tree up in the house tomorrow or Saturday and decorate it on Sunday. After we get it decorated I'm planning on taking a picture of it and posting the image for people to see.

And that's basically it for the day, other than me drinking a cup of tea and playing Final Fantasy Tactics Advance for a couple hours after we got home with the tree. Eight more hours and I'll have played for an entire week's worth of time. (Oh come on, you can do the math). I can only say that about three other games; can you guess which ones they are? ~_^

Now Playing #17: ZAOL - Palace Theme

I know, it's late again, but I was both busy and tired all day yesterday, and updating myOtaku falls a little low on my priority list to have made it onto the list of things I actually did yesterday. But the new midi, the Palace theme from Zelda II, is up now. It's actually a remixed midi, so it's going to sound a little different from the actual music in the game (especially the second half), but I think it was done well. And it's also the biggest midi I've put up so far, coming in at 82 KB, so if it takes a little while to load, please be patient. I think it'll be worth it. Oh, and for anyone that's played Super Smash Bros. Melee, you'll probably recognize this music from the Hyrule Temple arena. The Temple theme is actually just a remix of the Palace theme from Zelda II.

For those of you wondering what the heck this last sentence was supposed to mean in the last Now Playing update, it's basically telling you that I post a new midi every Sunday, if I'm not busy; so now you know.

The Desbreko Update

Hmm, I guess it's about time I wrote another post for this thing. It's been a while since I wrote an actual post and not just a Now Playing one. I guess I've been "busy" over Thanksgiving vacation, and then I haven't had much to write about since then. But I'll give it a shot, because I know how much you all like to read about my life, eh?

I guess I'll start from the beginning; Thanksgiving vacation, and how all that went. First off, it was really nice to get a week off from school, though of course, having that much time off also makes it that much harder to start again. But it was nice, and I certainly don't wish I hadn't had the time off, heh.

On Tuesday, Nov. 25, one of my older brothers came up from Santa Clara and stayed for a week. It was fun having him around for Thanksgiving, but not a whole lot actually went on. And one of my cousins (who's about the age of my oldest brother), her husband, and their two little kids were also here for Thanksgiving dinner. (We actually ended up having Thanksgiving dinner on Friday instead of Thursday so that they could make it; we went to Denny's on Thursday, which I thought was kind of funny). This was the first Thanksgiving where there wasn't a whole bunch of leftover turkey. We ate almost the whole thing -- and it was a big turkey, heh.

Over Thanksgiving week I got in a ton of play time on Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. I think I played about 30 hours or more during that week, and I ended up completing the rest of the 300 normal missions, so now I'm doing the extra ones. It was nice, since I could sit out in the living room/kitchen with my brothers and follow the conversation while playing FFTA at the same time. Even if it's only going a couple rooms away, portable systems rock. ^_^

So that's basically how my Thanksgiving vacation went. Nothing all that special happened; it was just a nice, relaxing week to spend hanging out with my brothers (and playing FFTA, of course). I didn't end up playing Mario Kart: Double Dash!! at all that week, but now I've started back up. Yesterday I finally beat every cup on every mode, 50cc through Mirror. Now I'm working on getting a perfect score (40 or 160 points) on every cup on every speed, and it's proving to be a real pain on 150cc and Mirror Mode.

So I guess that brings us up to the current time -- that being the last couple days. The day before yesterday I started showing signs of a fever, so I've been fighting it off with drugs (wink wink, nudge nudge) and lots of sleep. Seems to be getting better, and I haven't really felt all that sick besides that, so maybe it'll die off quickly.

And that's it. There's no more. Nothing interesting happens in my life, so just get over it... ... ... What, you're still here? I told you, that's it. Go. Leave. Turn off the computer and do something constructive with your life. ~_^

Now Playing #16: ZOOT - Gerudo Valley

Yeah, I know I haven't posted since the last Now Playing update, but I've been busy and haven't been online all that much. Still, at least I didn't forget about this again. I decided to go with the Gerudo Valley theme from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time this week. It's always been one of my favorite songs in the game, and I was in the mood for a more upbeat song... But not as upbeat as the Lost Woods theme, which I was also considering, heh.

If you don't know the meaning of this last sentence, you haven't been visiting my site enough.

Now Playing #15: The Eagles - Desperado

Yes, another non-video game song. And again, I'll post up the lyrics, since it's just a midi version of the song. It's one of my favorites by The Eagles.

New song next week -- don't miss it.

The Eagles - Desperado
Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
You been out ridin' fences for so long now
Oh, you're a hard one
I know that you got your reasons
These things that are pleasin' you
Can hurt you somehow

Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy
She'll beat you if she's able
You know the queen of heats is always your best bet

Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you can't get

Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin' no younger
Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home
And freedom, oh freedom well, that's just some people talkin'
Your prison is walking through this world all alone

Don't your feet get cold in the winter time?
The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine
It's hard to tell the night time from the day
You're loosin' all your highs and lows
Ain't it funny how the feeling goes away?

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences, open the gate
It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you, before it's too late

Don't miss your chance to own a piece of myOtaku history!

MyOtaku's 8,000th member joined today, and I just happened to sign on at the right moment to catch the glorious number before it slipped away to 8,001 and beyond. (Which it did a couple minutes later). Before leaving the page, I took a screen shot, from which I cut out the [My Statistics] bit and turned it into a little gif image. Other than shortening it a bit so that it's only 500 pixels wide (perfect banner size), it's completely unchanged from its original form... Okay, so that's not exactly true, since it was originally HTML and now it's an image file, but it looks the same, and that's what matters. So don't get technical with me.

Anyway, if you'd like to have a copy of this momentous myOtaku.com event to save and cherish forever, just send $19.95 in US funds to-- Wait a minute, do I really want to give out my address to whoever takes the time to read this? Considering the kind of stuff I post in here, I don't think I'd trust anyone that actually reads it by choice... Hmm, okay, I guess you can just go here to get your copy of the image. This is a once-in-a-lifetime offer, so don't miss out!

Final Fantasy XI Banners/Avatars

Yes, this is a shameless plug. But hey, if more people get to see my banners because of it, I'll go for it. And besides, this is my page. I can do what I want with it. >_>

Anyway, as some of you may have seen, I have a thread in OtakuBoards' Art & Design forum with my latest "works of art." That is, I've been making a number of Final Fantasy XI themed banners and avatars, and they're all posted in that thread. So if you want to check them out, be sure and visit that thread. Have I linked to the thread enough times yet? Yeah, okay, I'll stop at four, since five is right out. ^_^
