Zelos is the Chosen of Tethe'alla, a world which lies parallel to Sylvarant. He appears to have quite a relaxed attitude to his duties as a Chosen, and doesn't take anything seriously. Born in Meltokio, a city where social standing is everything, he moves in the highest social circles. Zelos loves the company of women, and he finds himself in great demand with the ladies because of his title, looks and playboy attitude.
When Lloyd and his group arrive in Tethe'alla, Zelos joins them to keep an eye on them by orders of the Pope of the Church. He quickly becomes the comic relief, and his constant smiles and flirting cause the others to not take him seriously, or to not even pay him much attention. But there is a lot more going on than just that, something which becomes painfully clear further into the game.
So just what is this Chosen? The Chosen is one who will go on a journey to regenerate their world if needed. The regeneration allows mana to flow into that world, thus, it flourishes. There is one Chosen in each generation, and this journey they undergo is fraught with dangers, and the end result doesn't mean a happy ending for the Chosen. The two worlds, Tethe'alla and Sylvarant, are in competition for the mana. At the time of the game, Tethe'alla is the flourishing world, and Sylvarant is in decline, but if Colette completes her journey of regeneration, that will reverse.
Of course, this being an RPG, you can bet that there is more to this than meets the eye.
