after an extended abscence
i am back. i ahve been very busy watching as much anime as possible, reading manga like a madman, and playing video games like a fiend. i have fought the good battle - from defending the good name of gundam to professing the teachings on nintendo. very soon, i'll post some of my thoughts on the state of the anime industry and our lifestyle in general.

Here is Greatness
Here is Greenwood is available now, on DVD. This is a great older series. I have wanted to see it since i first learned about in the early 90s. it is very shoujo, and very funny. the characters are charmingly odd and the stories are frantic while being realistic. this series feels very rumiko takahashi - sort of like her rumik theatre stories - in its realistic characters in wacky situations approach. since the entire 6 episodes are included in a 2 disc set that retails between 19.99 and 24.99, who can say no?

in absentia
dear readers, i have been away for quite some time. many things are to blame. naruto, megaman anniversary collection, the sad state of our country, skinny puppy's show, and, last but not least, kino's journey - which is the best anime EVER. but now it is done. i mourn this show. few and far between are such incredible stories. tales which are more intellectual than action. i mourn the loss of the perfectly imperfect world that kino lives in. we, fellow citizens, live in an imperfectly imperfect world. whereas kino's journey is filled with wonder, beauty, and curiosity, our journeys are filled with distrust, misinformation and bleakness. we live in orwellian times. and, if we're lucky, we can escape to lukus and be tehxnolyzed.
on a less bleak note, my birthday is the 4th. i've stolen this day from the government and brought it back to the people. wishing everyone a happy nil day.

   the largo's of the world
as a video gamer, here's what really irks me - the largo's of the world. those people who feel that only first person shooters and mmorpgs are worth playing. those who require the most powerful systems. those who only see graphics as being good if they are 3d. 2d games, by design, are better games. how often are there camera problems or ugly textures in 2d, hand drawn games? very rarely.

the other people who annoy me are the sony loyalists. why? because sony hardware sucks. my psone is the only game system to ever die on me. a friend of mine is on his 3rd ps2. sure, there are billions of games for sony platforms, but how do i know my system will work when it's time to play? the truth is, i don't.

at least my gba never lets me down...

   rant on evangelion
i must preface this rant with this statement: i truly like evangelion. it is a really good anime. cool story, cool characters, and an air of mystery. angst thrown in for good measure. what's not to like?

i recently came across an article on the net that claims that gasaraki is yet another eva clone. that does it.

eva, as good as it is, is NOT the end all be all of anime. people are so quick to call any series starring a young person who pilots a mech as an eva clone. why not call it a gundam clone? i think that amuro was the first teen to be forced to pilot a mech that only he could pilot.

others claim any series with deep philosophical stories and mechs are eva clones. ever hear of armored trooper votoms? it's an earlier work by ryosuke takahashi, the creator of gasaraki. (SPOILER HERE: the hero kills god in the last episode. as much as i like shinji, i doubt he can top that.)

people seem to forget eva borrows as many anime cliches as any other series.

gasaraki is a real robot, politically-based drama. yushiro is not a teen. no one fights angels, only political idealists. these two series could not be farther apart.

the point? maybe people should watch new series with that same wide-eyed wonder as when they first saw eva rather than claiming everything is ripped off.
