Breathe Again (poem)

Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain
In place of tears, it still won’t ease her pain

Loneliness resides in her heavy heart
Though she tries it can never part

A thousand tears fall from the heavens today
As the girl drowns with nothing to say

She has come silently, as she will go
The pain she feels no one can ever know

Help me to breathe again, she’s drowning in tears
Drowning in sorrow, surrounded by fears

She knows not of tomorrow, but only of the past
Always remembering promises don’t always last

Afraid of losing all she’s ever lived for
Watching him from afar as he walks out the door

Dreaming of a future that it seems she cannot attain
That alone is one of her greatest pains

Help me to breathe again, she’s drowning in tears
Drowning in sorrow, surrounded by fears

Barely holding the fragments of her heart
She tries to hold together so it won’t part

But in reality it has long since fled
Because of piercing words that never left her head

Though she smiles, there’s a shade deep inside
Of revolving fears that will never abide

Help me to breathe again, she’s drowning in tears
Drowning in sorrow, surrounded by fears
