   Samurai 7
I am currently watching Samurai 7 on the IFC channel. The way the animation was done is quite different from other animes I have seen. It looks as though it was painted with watercolor. The outlines are muddy and almost appear to be floating. The story itself is a retelling of the Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samaurai. The comic relief of the show is Kikuchiyo (キクチヨ, Kikuchiyo?) who mechanical samurai, who is constantly trying to prove he is a samurai. At one point he goes so far as to pull out a scroll which he claims is his family history. Unfortunately for him it quickly becomes clear that he can't read, he points to a name on the scroll and says thats him. Another member of the group notes that the name is of a 13 year old boy.

In truth only 4 of the 7 are Samurai in the true sense. Hayashida Heihachi is a samurai who has never fought a battle in his life and spent the war as a mechanic. Okamoto Katsushiro is a young swordsman who wants to be a samurai, he is granted his wish when Shimada Kambei the wisest of the group tells him he is the 5th samaurai.

The atmosphere is a mixture of the medival Japan and a futuristic world, where the capital floats in mid air. I like the series so far, although its is not my favorite.
