   rrrrrrrrrrrrr
My poor baby experienced discrimination the other day. Couple of immature kids in our class called him a ‘damn European’. I don’t understand what they have against “Europeans”, if you want to be technical, he’s Scandinavian (from Norway). sigh. Things ignorant people do to make themselves feel better about themselves.

I mean, it didn’t even matter to them where exactly in the continent he was from. ‘Ho. ho! Here is something that we can pick on, so let’s!’ Poor simple creatures. It is a Scourge of humanity that creates hate. Not even hate of an individual for any dislikable qualities, but the simple fact that he is from another place.

It happens all over, Americans, Europeans, ANY place: with our insensible nativism, nationalism, ethnocentricity, racism, and all other xenophobias. Here in Alaska the racism happens to Alaska Natives—which includes ALL the various groups like Athabaskan, Yupik, Tglingit, and all the countless smaller groups.

I happen to be Yupik Eskimo as well, I know how he feels. My face stucture is not roundish like others, my eyes not almond (that eye in my picture is mine!), my skin slightly lighter than other Natives, so people can’t really tell my ethnic background though they can tell I’m not white; when these people I knew asked and I replied, they got quiet like they were surprised.

But I hear the racism all over, in classrooms, in crowds, on the radio, in the newspaper. I don’t feel like there’s anything I can do about it. I can’t change human nature. Even if people stopped hating Natives, they’d still find another group to do it to.

Sorry, racism and ethocentricity are one of the many topics that set me off. I just hope it's all worth it, by speaking my opinions.
