Erika, what you mean Anne Rice vibe?
I like Anne Rics books, but I was seriosuly trying to make this my own. Cept for it being in New Orleans, Anne Rice made me fall in love with N'Orleans. :P

Chapter 2 Surviving the Sun Part 1
Waking up, I realized where I was. I had slept under newspapers, near the homeless. The ally was cold, and damp. A rat ran by here and there. The bums sat under their shelters. Boxes, papers, trash. The whole place was filthy. I kind of felt stinging on my arms. I looked up, to where I felt the pain coming from. The sun was behind the roof of the building behind me, but the heat I could feel as if I was standing next to it.
It was still day.
Day and vampires don’t mix. As long as I was in the shade, I couldn’t be wounded in a permanent way. But still, being this vulnerable bothers me. I’m not a weak mortal, I’m a god. Well, I would like to think that anyways… The hobos stared at me. I must’ve been a sight though. Looking like a simple 16 year old male, wearing all black, and blood dried around my mouth. Skin pale as a ghost. Yeah, I suppose I would be a sight to this filth.
I had to go somewhere. Staying here wasn’t an option, at noon; the sun would be directly overhead, no escaping it in this ally. I started to walk towards another ally, then ran, then sprinted. I was about to run straight out of this ally, into the middle of the street, and into the other ally. This was the direction of my home, no changing course now. About to step into the light… about to-
“AGH!” I screamed in torment. The second I stepped into the full view of the sun, my skin felt like it was being ripped apart. My complexion darkening, I leaped for what I was hoping to be the rest of the way towards the other ally. Smoke was coming off of me as parts of my skin blackened. I could feel the heat as if I was standing on the sun.
Landing and rolling into the other ally, every bit of my blackened skin skidded on the concrete. Lying there, I felt like screaming a thousand times. I had to move on, the sun was moving really fast, or that stunt made me go a lot slower. At any rate, surviving the sun straight on for more then three minutes didn’t seem probable.
Looking around, I saw ladders leading up to windows. Fire escape ladders… The homes in the windows reeked of filth. I could smell the trash in the houses. I could also smell the people. Large, sweaty, covered in their food. What part of town did I get myself lost in? As I trudged down this ally, I stopped. I felt… pulsing. Pulsing of hearts. Succulent, warm hearts. The blood pulsing in my ears. I bit lightly into my tongue, letting my own blood fill my mouth. It was a minor distraction from the people’s blood, but good enough for now…
“DAMN!” I brought my hand back to my body. Looking up, I saw I had reached the end of the ally. The sun beating down on the ground inches from my feet. The next ally was across a one way street. A short jump... but can I risk myself again? The sun was getting ever higher in the sky. In less then an hour, it would bear its burning weight down on me. If I try for the ally, I might turn into a flying fire ball… or I might stay alive long enough to not make it to my house and burn alive where I stand.
The odds weren’t in my favor.
