A New Poem For Mom
As some of you know, my mom died after her four year battle with ovarian cancer on March 21st of this year. My grandpa talked about her today, so I thought of this poem and wrote it for her. Please read.

You won't get to see me
Go off on my own

You won't get to see me
Graduate from college

Heck, you won't even see me
graduate from high school

You won't get to reap
The seeds you have sewn

Things will be different
Things will be hard
Without you there
To be my guard

Dad is different
Dad is not the same
I miss you so much
I miss calling your name

People don't get
What cancer's about
People don't get
The struggles you had to bout.

You were strong and brave
Courageous too,
But none of these traits
Could help heal you

It ate you whole
From inside out
Without even stopping
To chew you in its mouth

Cancer's a fiend
Satan's best friend
But you met it head on
Hoping to make it end

It took your lungs
You kept on fighting
You couldn't breathe,
But you kept your silver lining

Eventually it won
But you fought to the end
You're free from its slavery
You're free from its bend.

I'll see you again
Someday, somehow
I'll see you again
But not here, not now

This is not goodbye
I know that is true
This is not goodbye
Mom, I'll see you
~again
