Open Letter To Viz Media (and company)
Just when I thought the creative terrorism caused by Michael Eisner (formerly of Disney) had topped the asshole olympics..along come the CEO's of Viz media. Remeniscent of the infamous Disney and Daycare battle,(for those who don't know this story...Disney (read Eisner) sued a daycare for putting Disney characters on its walls. Warner Brothers came in and redecorated it for free) Viz has started policing all types of fan based activity. The gestapo has been patrolling sites like Youtube.com, leaving destruction among the AMV's in its wake. Now I hear they are attacking and trying to police fanart, wallpapers, ect. I can understand Viz getting upset over fan dubs. Fandubs do cut into their profits. But, how can AMV's do it? How can fanart do it? In my personal experience, when I watch AMV's of animes I've not seen before, my interest is peaked. Sometimes it's peaked enough to actually buy the anime. Same goes for fanart and all other fan activity.

Viz is following in Disney's footsteps. I foresee them falling as Disney did. During Eisner's reign Disney lost their ass. Viz will do the same. It's stopped caring about their fans. It's fans that keep the business going. It's not like Viz's voice work and editing is that great anyway. Fans are doing them a favor.
Inuyasha would not be half as popular. Abusing fans like Viz is doing is shooting itself in the foot. Maybe Viz needs a wakeup call. They should talk to the new execs at Disney.

To the people in charge at Viz...
Alienate the fans and lose your ass.

To all others: Beware, you never know when you're being watched. I
