The Mirror - Dark Stories
Sometimes I feel like a freak. Like something is wrong with me. I look around, seeing all these people...happy, surrounded by friends...and then I see me in the mirror. I'm not smiling, and one or two people are at my side. They are my friends. Just two of them. One of them is fading...she keeps fading till the only thing left is her voice. The remaining friend holds my hand. Slowly the scenery changes to show us together in a boat, floating down a river. We look at the shore and see people. Behind them is war, hunger, terror, death and suffering. Yet they are smiling. I look closer at them. "They're blind.." I whisper. My friend nods. The boat moves past the scene. Now we are at a battle scene. Screams of the dying fill the air, along with sound of gunfire. I see a soldier walking towards a child. The child is crying next to the corpse of his mother, and shaking her to try and wake her up. The child looks up and sees the soldier. "Please sir, help me wake up Mommy!" the child begs him. "I can't." the soldier replies. "She's dead, and so are you." He then points his gun at the child...I turn away. Tears block my vision. My friend hugs me in an attempt to make me feel better. "I'm so sorry.." he says to me. I close my eyes. "It's okay, Brian. The child can see his mom now." I whisper. Then the scene disappears...back to reality. Brian is still at my side. I hug him. "I love you." I whisper into his ear. He looks confused. "I...I thought you would hate me after that." he says. I smile. "I don't hate you. In fact, I'm grateful you showed me that. Now I understand." He grins. "I'm glad that someone does."
