Chapter 2: Greatest Day

I like to thank all those who struck around after reading chapter 1.

Also to the reviewer that said that this reminded them of Sky High, basically the idea of writing this fic came from reading lots of fanfics about the Sky High. Some of the characters are modeled after the characters but they also are modeled after other fictional people that I am a fan of.

After another rougher and deeper kiss, Warwick pulled back and smirked, “So, having fun already?”

Blushing, I pulled up my hoodie (for some reason ever since I hit puberty my skin has become really sensitive to sunlight. Its weird since my skin doesn’t get sunburn or anything but feels really uncomfortable like a really itchy wool sweater that you can’t take off.) Warwick takes my hand into his and we walk toward the school. Lydia and Derrick make gagging noises in the background. I just rolled my eyes at that at them. “Gees, real mature.”

Lydia snorts, “Some of us can’t really stomach fake guilt-ridden niceties.”

BAM

A bolt of lightning struck just a hair away from Lydia’s feet. Derrick immediately put his arm around Lydia and shot a glare at Warwick. “Overkill?”

Warwick inherited his powers from his late-super heroine mother weather controller Thunderbird. He has the ability to call forth lightning as well as resistance to electricity plus a touch of atmospheric empathy (basically he can predict weather patterns instinctively). He seems to have inherited his father Vance Lord Black’s rather notorious violent temper, which often got the better of him but lately Warwick really has been trying.

I sighed, “Lydia that was rather harsh. I thought you promised accept that I have forgiven Warwick and let the past be the past. And War, you also promised to control your temper, you know that Lydia is basically defenseless against your powers.”

Warwick just shrugged, “Look, I better get to class. See you after school at my place, Lance. Remember not to bring your friends.”

(War turned eighteen two weeks before school started and recently got his own place. Its basically a hole-in-the-wall of a apartment over some old lady’s garage but still offer the privately he carved.)

“War….”

Too late, Warwick was already lost in the crowd of students. The first day of school was always a mess with everyone everywhere that once someone went out of sight you basically have no chance of finding them in the chaos.
I just frowned at Derrick and Lydia. Derrick at least makes an attempt to look abash. But Lydia with her arms crossed kept a firm stand. “Look Lance, I know that you forgave him for what happened this summer. But the guy cheated on you, while you may be able to overlook it. We can’t, you deserve better than that and its painful to see you taken for granted.”

I looked down at my feet before muttering, “We better get to class.”

Quickly I walked at a fast pace to make sure that they stayed behind me. Can’t stand the look of pity in their eyes. Can’t stand it at all.

I guess I better explain what happened over the summer. You see, Warwick technically did cheat on me but he only did it so that I would break up with him cause one of his dad’s old crew was in town and threatened to harm everything that Warwick and his brothers if they didn’t go along with his plan.
First to understand the situation better you have to know what Warwick has had to deal with in his life. His dad used to be one of the greatest superheroes in the world before he went rogue and became one of the most dangerous people in the world. After his dad got locked up, his mother tried to keep things together (she was a semi-famous superheroine though after her husband’s arrest her reputation was in ruins) but Warwick’s mother died in his freshmen year, War’s a senior now so that happened three years ago. A freak car accident, which because wasn’t in the line of duty the superhero insurance policy she had ended up not forking over any money. War’s older brother Richard who was barely nineteen at the time ended the legal guardian of Warwick and his middle brother Jamie. Warwick doesn’t really get along with Richard, mainly cause they are so much alike and don’t even know it…Richard takes after their Irish father in looks but has their mother’ s calm responsible personality. While Warwick takes after their half-Cherokee mother in appearance but takes after their dad’s more volatile temperament. While Jamie who is only eleven months older than War looks like a beautiful blend of the two and has his own unique laid-back charming personality. Out of all of them, Jamie is definitely the most gorgeous with his exotic pretty boy exterior; his cover job is as a catalog model. While Richard is good-looking with so much responsibility so early in life, he seems to have aged prematurely. Warwick is the only sexy of the brothers with his bad boy aura and taste for rocker style clothing. Anyway, the three inherited weather-based powers from their mother, Warwick with his lightning, Jamie with his wind powers, while Richard has ice-based powers. However, due to War’s temper, those who don’t know him well seem to think that he will one day follow in his father’s footsteps.
Anyway back to why he cheated on me…actually to be more exact why he decided to cheat on me with my arch nemesis. Well, long story when the supervillian came into town threatening to harm those who loved and cared about Warwick. So, Warwick’s automatic response is to make sure there is no one around that loves him. That way the villain got no ammo against War. Basically War behaved like a grade-A jackass to everyone and for the most part it worked he got everyone pissed off at him and leaving him alone. What War didn’t count on was for the villain to see right through the act and kidnap me anyway. Or rather try to kidnap me…there are some really dumb plans and trying to abduct the son of the world’s greatest superheroes is definitely without a doubt one of them. Basically the villain got his ass handed to him on a silver platter and everyone found out about why War acted like an ass. However, forgiving his behavior is another thing. A lot of people including Lydia believe that Warwick is an idiot for doing what he did, but me I get Warwick’s rationale. I may not like it but I get where Warwick would figure that he needed to handle it all on his own.

BRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIG!!!!

Save by the bell, I inwardly cheer, “Bye guys, see you lunch.”

I rush off before anything else could be said. We all have different homeroom classes, you see we are all group by power types.

Lydia is classed as a Molecular because of ability to manipulate things on the molecule level; typically Moleculars were either shape-shifters or regenerators, people who could repair/heal their tissues, bones, or limbs. While Derrick, he’s class as a Supes; these are your typical super speedsters, strongmen, etc…these make up almost 60% of the student body. (The second largest group is the Psionics; those with heighten mental abilities like telepaths or empaths, making up close to 30% of the class.) And Warwick is an Elemental (those with the ability to channel, project, and control different types of energies through their bodies), ironically my former best friend Willow is also in this class (she’s a geo-morph, having the ability to psychokinetically manipulate, control, levitate and reshape the classic element of earth; sand, stone, rock, lava, and/or dirt and could even transform the consistency of earth and rock). Basically the school is divided up into six sections: Molecular, Supes, Elemental, Psionics, Feral (superhumans with combination of animal and human DNA), and finally my class…Magi. People who have powers come from supernatural means; we are the smallest class, literally six students in the whole school.

I make it to class, just before the final bell rings. I open the door (again with the irony the room is 666), inside are the four students…Oops, I forgot Sheila the werewolf girl was a senior last year that means she graduated already.

Anyway, since our class is so small we don’t even attempt to divide ourselves among power types. (Most of the other sections divide up by specific power grouping for examples; Supes have a class for Strongmen/women and another for speedsters, and a class for combos, etc…) So, it’s just us five: sophomore Amber Holts, she’s hereditary Wiccan, sophomore Lilith Anderson she’s a witch from other dimension who can control the four elementals, fellow junior Jessica Gordon who actually half-elf (yes, they do exist, not like Santa’s helpers more like those out of Dragonlance), and finally senior Gloria, she’s the most interesting out of all of us a genuine changling (yep, faeries really do steal newborns and replace them with their own). As you may have noticed, I am the only guy in the class, so it’s a bit awkward at times.

“Mr. Armstrong, in or out?” A dour voice behind me speaks. I whipped around at the voice. If there is one faculty member that the whole student body is afraid of it is this one…my homeroom teacher, Athena.

Athena, if you are thinking Greek goddess of wisdom, war, strategy, industry, justice and skill. The Romans know her as Minerva: patron goddess to all of the most famous Greek heroes such as Jason or Odysseus. The goddess the city of Athens is named after. Yep, that’s the one.

A literal GOD teaches the Magi class of Hercules High School. On an interesting side note the school named after her half-brother. You might be wondering why such a high-power omnipotent being would want to be reduced to teaching homeroom to a bunch of hormonal super-teens? Well, get in line that’s what the whole student body and most of the faculty want to know. The only ones who know the answer is her and our principal even the vice principal is in the dark about it.

Since it’s the twenty-first century, she no longer wears the armor and helmet but the ever-pleasant white owl is always on her shoulder. Instead its elegant corporate business suits which no matter what the weather outside is never wrinkles or look worn. And there is no mistaking her for a mere mortal. She has the regal bearing of the goddess while she may not be movie star beautiful Athena is absolutely striking, strong Grecian features and a muscular lithe body that you could easily imagine kicking ass on a battlefield.

“Well, Mr. Armstrong. Aren’t you going to take a seat?” Athena adjusts her glasses, she doesn’t really need them but thinks they make her look more approachable.

I immediately took a seat in the front, right next to Lilith who straightens up in her chair. I notice that all the girls sit a little straighter and have their attention up in front. Athena has that effect on all of us.

“Alright class, I would like to start off the day by introducing a new student.”

Cool, one of the freshmen must have some magic after all. Like I said we are a small class, most of the kids at the school either get their powers by genetic mutation, or falling into a vat of nuclear waste, or bitten by radioactive bug.

Suddenly, a guy walks into the classroom.

My jaw drops. OMG!! Of all the people in the world, why did it have to be him?!

At five-ten, we are the height (taller than the average person, but shorter than most supermen) but that’s where the physical likeness ends. To put it lightly the guy is gorgeous. Not just wannabe teen heartthrob material either, but true piece of art belonging in a museum gorgeous. Like an angel from a Renaissance painting, he was exquisite with pale sapphire blue eyes and silky golden hair so pale that it almost seemed like a halo. Skin so unnaturally blemish free that if it weren’t for the fact that he was standing right in front of you, you would swear was airbrushed. A slender lithe body that would make a burlap suit looks like Armani. In fact, he would look perfect if it were for the fact that if you look closely at his eyes you would notice how hostile they are.

“Class, I would like to present to you, Donovan Fairmount, he is a recent transfer from our sister school on the East coast and will be joining the junior class.”

“Well, well, if it isn’t Armstring, enjoyed your summer,” Donovan taunted/purred.

“Donovan, since this is your first day you may not know all the rules so I will let you off with a warning. In this class, we don’t disrespect each other,” Athena replied, with a stern look. She didn’t raise her voice or anything but something about it made everyone know she meant business.

Donovan Fairmount may be a lot of things, mean, spiteful, selfish, and narcissistic but one thing he wasn’t was suicidal. Donovan quickly mumbles a false apology and took the empty seat next to me. He shoots me a quick glare that would make a lesser person whimper but for me its business as usual. Donovan Fairmount, son of the superhero Delta V and the late-crazed supervillian Majestic, also known as my archrival and the person…Warwick cheated on me with this summer.

ZAP

Suddenly I felt painful sting in my shoulder, as a scrap of paper bounces off my head, I open it:

Enough your time with him while you can cause HE’S taking me to Homecoming.

Just cause my life is so uncomplicated, right? Fate has decided to make my life a little more interesting by having a narcissistic demigod set his sights on my boyfriend, add to the fact the said demigod also has a grudge against my mom for helping take down his supervillian mother (though technically the killing blow was dealt by his own father Delta V, which kind of explains why he has so many issues).

Okay, a little background on our new resident jerk is like Warwick, he’s the son of a hero and villain but unlike Warwick’s parents who had a loving relationship before the fall. Delta V and Majestic got along as well as oil and water, Donovan apparently is the result of a one night stand involving a shit lot of alcohol. He was raised by his self-absorbed supervillian demigoddess mother (the daughter of the Norse trickster god Loki and a mortal) though to be honest most of her criminal acts weren’t really dangerous and life threatening. For all her power, and I mean she had a lot of god-like power she really let it go to waste. Strictly speaking she could have easily taken over the world with the arsenal she had instead she went out stealing diamonds, jewels whatever caught her fancy. A powerful but unimaginative petty villainness she treated her son like a beloved plaything spoiling him rotten by giving him whatever he demanded but at the same time not giving him the one thing he truly needed attention. As a result, Donovan is sort of the male version of her, demanding what he wants and if he doesn’t get it throwing a damn scary tantrum. (Unlike his mother, Donny, though don’t let him hear you call him that, does know how to use his god-like powers creatively). Anyway, after the final confrontation, which resulted in his mother’s death, he was released into his father’s custody. Delta V, he’s the Nascar of our generation, his public persona is that of a fun-loving superhero who does always comes through but his private self is that of a womanizing bachelor who is too selfish to give up the lifestyle he’s accustomed to just cause he got a kid. Which is why Donovan ended up here over the summer with is aunt, his dad’s half sister, Deanna Duke aka Principal Duke.

“Mr. Armstrong, are you still with us?” Athena’s voice snaps me out of my contemplation.

Donovan gives a nasty little snicker; while the girls around me give sympathetic looks.

Feeling sheepish, “Sorry, Athena.”

“Well, as I was saying while you were daydreaming is since Donovan is new to this school that he would need a escort around campus. As it happens you have been involuntarily inducted to the task.”

I was about to open my mouth when Athena’s voice was suddenly in my head. Mr. Armstrong, I am well aware your history with Mr. Fairmount but you are the only one that I trust to be able to handle Mr. Fairmount less than sterling temperament.

Sighing, I just nodded. It sometimes bites being the nice guy.

Turning to Donovan who was smirking. He mouthed ‘this will be fun.’

Yep, being the nice guy bites.
