Escaflowne is soooo awesome. It is really great!
Hitomi Kanzaki

The main character from Tenkuu no Escaflowne, Hitomi was transported to Gaea with Van after his battle with the dragon. She is a cheerful person, who is a talented sprinter in her high school athletics team. She also likes to tell fortunes, with her deck of tarot cards and also with a rose coloured pendant given to her by her grandmother. On Gaea her psychic abilities increase dramatically, to the point where she can see “The Invisible Enemy”. She is a very courageous person and is willing to sacrifice herself for others, despite being surrounded by deadly battles in a strange land.

Van Slanzar de Fanel

Van is the prince of Fanelia who was sent to Earth while battling a dragon as part of his right of succession. However, the destruction of his country by Zaibach forces him to flee with Hitomi in his guymelef the Escaflowne. He is very protective of his country and those around him, such as Merle and Hitomi, although this sometimes leads to him rushing into things without thinking them through. He is a promising swordsman and his talent for both this and piloting Escaflowne develops throughout the series.

Allen Crusade Schezar

A member of the elite twelve “Heavenly Knights” of Asturia, Allen is a guard of that country’s royal family. He is very courageous, and his honour as a knight is very important to him. He is a great swordsman and combined with dashing looks and a suave personality, Allen appears every bit a chivalrous knight. However, he is also known as a bit of a playboy and has a very troubled past. He bears a strong resemblance to Amano, the guy Hitomi likes.

Millerna Sara Aston

Millerna is the youngest princess of Asturia, daughter of King Aston. However, she is not content with simply doing her duties as a princess and has studied medicine in the past. Millerna is very much in love with Allen. In the series she starts off behaving in a very elitist and rude manner towards Hitomi in particular, but becomes nicer as the story progresses.

Merle

Merle is Van’s companion, and has been a part of Fanelia’s royal entourage since her infancy. She is a catgirl, with large ears, a tail, and patches of fur and tiger-like stripes. Merle is very possessive of Van, to the point where she is mean and jealous towards Hitomi because she thinks that Hitomi is trying to steal Van away from her.

Dryden Fassa

Dryden is the son of one of King Aston’s advisors, Meiden. He is a merchant like his father, and is very rich. However, rather than stay in his home country of Asturia, Dryden travels all over Gaea acquiring knowledge. This has made him more than a little bit vain, although with his wisdom and riches some would say rightly so.

Folken Strategos

The enigmatic strategist of Zaibach, Folken lives on the empire’s giant floating fortress known as the Vione. He takes orders from Dornkirk through an oversized video screen, in addition to developing new Guymelef technology. One of his arms was severed in a fight and he now uses a mechanical arm. Despite working for Zaibach, he cares about others such as Naria and Eriya, and is motivated by wanting to change the world for the better.

Dornkirk

Dornkirk is the emperor of Zaibach, but is in no way a simple villain. It is his technology that made the creation of Zaibach’s superior Guymelefs possible, and a machine that keeps him alive despite his age, which is over the equivalent of 200 Earth years. His destruction of various countries in Gaea is motivated by a surprisingly altruistic wish to change the fate of the planet, the secrets of which he intends to discover through unlocking the past and mysteries of Gaea’s ancient race.

Dilandau Albatou

Dilandau is the commander of the Dragonslayers, an elite Zaibach guymelef army. He has one of the most interesting and crazy personalities in Escaflowne, as he is obsessive and extreme about everything. He spends a lot of time in the series trying to kill Van, which he incorporates into his love of burning anything and everything. He is also very vain and self-confident but also desperately afraid of being alone. As the series progresses, Dilandau gradually becomes more psychotic.

Naria and Eriya

These catgirl twins were saved as young children by Folken, and are selflessly devoted to him. The trust they put in Folken is very great and they will do anything to assist his plans, even risk their own lives.
