'tis a sin to kill a mockingbird.
I was asked at school today, "do you find it insulting when people call you smart?"

An interesting question, one that I really pondered, especially after reading halfway through To Kill A Mockingbird yesterday. One of my favorite quotes, "People in their right minds never take pride in their talents," and that's exactly the quote that popped into my mind as the question was asked.

So I promptly told her, "yes, it does insult me to be called smart." I meant to go into an explanation of why it was insulting, but the next problem was about to be gone over so I merely added, "If only because its so irritating and is constantly being said."

Everyone is smart in their own way. People who call themselves dumb are dumb for calling themselves that. All they're doing is lowering their self-esteem. Everyone is smart in their own way and it feels like so many people just don't understand this.

Some people, like myself, happen to be great in academics while others are not. These certain others are the ones that call me smart. I find it insulting... if only because they're bragging about my being exceptionally good in all subjects at school. Talent is a gift... something that should be appreciated, but not flaunted about to make everyone else feel like shit.

I find it an insult to be called smart, not because I think I'm dumb, but because I don't want to boast about my above average work in certain areas of study or anything else. Even if I'm not the one saying I'm smart, even if I'm not the one boasting, they're doing it for me and they're making it worse. They're the one's who are usually exaggerating things to a horrible extent.

I understand what I'm talking about. Don't know if you all got what I was saying, but that doesn't matter to me... its my blog.

And just to be a hypocrite, I made an interesting discovery today while looking at my report card: In about three or four classes, I've gotten 100% or higher since the beginning of the year. The one I found most surprising was Math... usually I have a mid-90's grade in Math. I guess all of the extra accelerated math objectives I've been earning have been keeping my grade at 100 and 101.

Mmm. Angsty post in store for either tomorrow or whenever I get online to post again. Well, angsty with a some stress, depression, etc. That kind of stuff. Just a few things I want to get off my chest, if at least indirectly. Maybe I'll talk about the issues directly one day but not right now. Too lazy for one. Too lazy to type any other reason.

Gotta go eat my late dinner... noodles. Yum.
