I had something to say, and I forgot.
So, I went bowling with my church group. The first time, I lost by 40 points, the second time, I lost by 5 and came in second.

Kind of sad.

Also, I finally got a bunch of recreational reading in. YAY!

Here's a funny story.

My band teacher didn't have the bassoon audition for districts. So I had to order it myself. And they music store didn't order it.

So I had to get it express mailed from the publishers in order to get it by yesterday when I found out.

Because I have to screen on Tuesday.

So I have 2 more days to learn a grade 4 piece.

And the maddening part is, the actual audition isn't for 2 Saturdays, so I've got lots of time but if I don't screen well, I can't go to that, so I still have to learn it by Tuesday.

*the sound of utter frustration*

F. Scott Fitzgerald.
So, I got to Stats after English, and I was holding this collected short stories thing for Fitzgerald because it wouldn't fit in my bag.

The girl who sits next to me was like, "I had him for my research paper last year."

So I asked, "What stories did you analyze for it?"

And she says, "I don't remember. They're all about how alcohol is a good way to solve your problems."

So I said, "Oh," and haven't read any yet, as I'm disturbed.

Really crappy songs.
So, I lent my friend a CD yesterday. And this CDs existance is a complicated thing.

See, I borrowed it. I copied it. It didn't work. I ripped it as MP3s on one computer, put it on my player, put it on the other computer, converted it to WAV files, burned it, and gave it to her. Then I listened to it as MP3s and realized track 7 on was of hideous quality, of a cracking popping variety.

So I said to her today, "On the first CD, I really can't account for the quality of the songs after track 6. They're really horrible, and I'm gonna try to do something about that."

And she goes, "I haven't listened to it yet, and who knows, I might like them."

Which confused me until I realized that she thought I meant the songs were just bad.

So with that clarified, I'm thinking, and realizing that this isn't the first time we've had the same misunderstanding.

And I'm about done now.

Films, because movies are sooooo mainstream.
So, the Halloween Film Festival at school was Friday.

That actually means, "Johnny Depp Night."

They showed Edward Scissorhand and Pirates of the Caribbean.

And Edward was pretty much the cutest thing I'd seen in a long time. I mean, that was seriously adorable!

Anyway, I've been doing no homework, having a lovely time, and re-hating my history teacher for all new reasons.

Today was one os those days when it seems like there's something a little wrong with everything.
My history teacher made it all worse. In addition to the mess our homework is already in (assigned exclusively online at a random point over the weekend), he's now going to make it all due Friday, collect it, and hand our notes back after the test.

And my closest friend is driving me crazy. She's clingy and whiny, and I know this, but I see her all the time and her best friend moved, so I get all the clingy and whiny now. I can't be responsible if I hit her when she touches my bag, my arm, my school supplies, my hair. Or if she assumes I'm whining when I say something like, "Jazz isn't my cup of tea," in response to, "What'd you think of the jazz band?" Or if she starts telling me about how long she was at marching.

Because people forget that while they go to marching or field hockey or whatever like 9 or 10 hours after school for 2 or 3 months, I work the same all year. Then, they're mystified when I don't say, "Oh, poor baby," in response to, "I hate marching."

Hypochondria pretty much everywhere.
I don't know what to say. Except that I had a lot of homework.

So, I have my newish fishtank and two fish just vanished on Friday, without a trace.

Sunday, I upturn a resin rock, and a living fish fish falls out.

This morning, the last fish finds its way out of the rock.

These are not the brightest animals in the world.

But whatever. They're okay.

Frustrated to tears.
This is how we agreed to do things in my history class, since our teacher wants to post our homework online rather than just tell us.

The assignments would be posted on Sunday nights for the week, and we'd just have to get them done by the due date. There'd be and assignment with page numbers for each edition of the book circulating. This seems quite simple.

Imagine my horror when, while downloading the upcoming week's assignments yesterday night, I discovered something due today that wasn't listed last week.

I was irriated enough by the prior issues caused by the exclusively online setup, but this was really too much.

I confront him about it, explaining that because the assignment was supposed to have been posted earlier that week, I hadn't brought home my book because it wasn't needed for the assigment that was listed for Friday as of Thursday night. I explained that I would do whatever homework was assigned, but I need to know what it is before I leave school.

All that he got out of this was that the book is a pain to bring home if not needed.

So he said we'll keep our books at home from now on, and he's sorry, he'll "screw up" from time to time. Which just absolves him of the blame for it, because he can say, it was online and you had books.

But really, this is still an issue. He can't, with no mention, add assignments at 5:30 on a Friday night and be confused as to why people are upset. I can't spend my life checking online.

That's another thing. He thinks that it's a waste of his time to make sure that the questions on the tests are covered in all of the textbooks, so he tells us to look it up online if something on the study guide not in the book.

Waste of his time? It's a waste of my time too, and for all the time he's allegedly spending on the class, I don't see much outcome.

And I've just had this hideous arthritic day at school to boot.

And then, he calls my mom to see if I'm having a breakdown.

To which all I can say is, he's just waiting for someone to break down. And it won't be me.

And don't call my house!

So yesterday, in light of the fact that it was pouring, we went driving, and part of Rt. 1 was closed because it was flooded all the way from the gas station parking lot on one side to the Dunkin Donuts on the other.
And then, the detour was somewhat flooded too.

Being an only child makes you really appreciate your cat.

Do you know, I have these fish, and they won't eat, but they haven't died? I have no idea when or what they're eating.

They also hide in crevices at night and take 15 minutes in the morning to unfreak out after the light turnes on.

Not the brightest animals.

And everyone's incoherent tonight.

And so, the school building and the local library joined forces and ate all my time.
Which is a whole lot more dramatic than the truth about 2 daily hours of Buffy and the weekend I watched the entire frist season of Lost, plus my nightly shows.

I'm kind of like an old lady about TV. I tape my shows and watch them later. So when someone asks, it's always, "Oh, I haven't watched it yet."

And I actually have nothing to say, because I've spent the two weeks absent listening to my shows while doing homework. Lots of it.

(I'm actually supposed to be working on my Macbeth paper at the moment.)

So, my sister is camping with the Girl Scouts, my brother is camping with the Boy Scouts, and on my day of only childness, what did I do?

I took the PSAT, of course.

Which is startlingly like the MCAS.

Oh, and for those not up with the weather, the whole Northeast is flooding madly from the rain. We've had 6.5 inches at my house, and that's not the least. They had to evacuate some town in NH, and I saw some footage of this insanely flooded town in MA.

Oh, and it thundered last night. Which was weird.

And the school lot is under contruction -> doesn't drain -> is flooded. It's fabulous. But not like that day they had to have all the seniors move theri cars.

Which was bad, because on our school news show, they had footage of all our old-guy teachers taking off their shoes, hiking up their pants, and wading to their cars.

Anyway ...

Lame as can be, in a band kind of way.
Band Director, Friday: "Go to the Marching Band Classic. That's how we get money to pay for instruments. Like bassoons."

Me, Saturday: "Will this get me in free?" *holds up her Key Club card that gets her into most school events for free*

Then, I don't buy anything at all.

But whatever. My class is having a thing where if you get the most points for attending school functions and being involved, you get free prom tickets. Little do they know, there are actually 6 of us who get into everything but the prom free, so it's not like we're spending money getting points.

Beat the system!

I'm really about done whining now.
