The Best Weekend EVER!

The pursuit of happiness is a most ridiculous phrase; if you pursue happiness you'll never find it.
- C. P. Snow

Greetings All! I hope you’re all having a wonderful day! It’s time for what has become my weekly blog post. It sucks that it’s become weekly as opposed to more than that, it’s just with everything and the way it has fallen, I just don’t have the time for much more than that. So, yeah, if you’ve had a problem with my blog only being updated on a weekly basis, suck it up, cuz it’s not changing. On with the post! Well, before that, I guess I should clarify that title a bit. It wasn’t the best weekend ever. The best weekends are those spent at conventions or traveling and stuff, but as far as weekends being spent on campus though, this one took the cake.

Friday
It started off extremely boring. In fact, it set a record for boredom (which is probably one reason it ended up being so good). By 3:00 on Friday afternoon, I was already bored out of my mind with no plans for that evening. Yeah, a horrible way to kick things off. I typically hit that boredom stage at about 8:00 not 3:00. But, things got better. I heard from one of my friends that he was holding a DDR party in his dorm again. So, I made plans to go to that, but first I went to dinner. Again, dinner started off very dull. I was one of a whole 15 people in the entire cafeteria. Lets just say, most people leave campus on Friday nights. I sat down by myself at a table, expecting to eat fast and get to the DDR party. That isn’t what fate had in mind. I was soon joined by two of my newer friends, both new to campus this year and both very interesting people. The first was a guy named Aaron. He’s a 5th year college student who just transferred here from some other school I don’t remember the name of. His parents are the missionaries in residence on campus. Really cool guy, very sociable. A conversation with him cannot be boring in the least. And the conversations I had at this particular dinner table were anything but boring. The second person who showed up was a girl named Jessica. Really nice girl! Very cute, very nice, sociable, and a fun person to be around. I eat with her on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at lunch, but rarely eat with her at dinner. Our schedules coincide that way. She is also a transfer student from some smaller community college in Virginia where she’s from. She’s my age. Both of these people are involved in the anime club on campus and Aaron is very gung-ho about the go club I’m starting. So, I spend a lot of time with them.

Anyway, dinner took much longer than I had thought it would. I got there at about 5:15 but we didn’t end up leaving ‘til about 7:00. The conversation went in many directions. Now, apparently I have leukemia and will die on the day before Halloween. They have a memorial service and funeral all in the works. Of course, I’ll be giving the eulogy. ^_^ Yeah, oddness. This is the way conversations go around here. But, the one aspect of the conversation at dinner that impacted the entire rest of the evening was Jessi’s “complaint” that nobody ever comes and visits her in her room during visitation hours. Aaron and I ran with this. We decided not to allow this travesty to continue. Jessi needs visitors! So, after dinner, we allowed her time to go and straighten up her room or comb her hair or do whatever it is that girls do before guys visit their rooms, before we actually went over there. It was quite fun! We sat and talked in her room for about an hour and a half. It was a blast! It’s a much more homey of a room than mine is. Very well lit, pictures on the wall and stuff. Just nicer. But of course that is to be expected. She is a female after all, and I’m not. So yeah. Conversation had worn down a bit after an hour or so and I, being the total film addict that I am, suggested a movie. Everybody seemed up for it, so we went! On the way there we dropped by the mall and got a couple manga though. Aaron bought his first manga! YAY! The virus is spreading! He bought the first three volumes of One Piece. I bought the second and last volume of a wonderful manga called Q*Ko-Chan. It’s by the same guy who did the FLCL manga. Same art style and everything. So pretty! Jessi bought the first volume of a manga I had never heard of called Zyword. I’ll have to get her opinion on that one after she finishes it. After the bookstore we went to the movie. We saw Man of the Year. It’s the new Robin Williams movie about a TV political commentator of the variety of John Stewart and Jay Leno who runs for president and wins. So, suffice it to say, it was hilarious. A very good movie, one I’ll probably end up buying. I liked it. Once back on campus after the movie, we spent another hour or so just standing in the parking lot talking. It was very fun, again. I don’t know, I never had so much fun just talking in my life. It was a blast. But, I had to cut the conversation off short because I had work on Saturday morning and needed my sleep. After all, it was like 1:30 at this point. So, that was Friday.

Saturday
Not quite as interesting as Friday, but still good. I spent the majority of Saturday at work. As I’ve said before, I work in the university call center raising money. This weekend they decided to bring in a professional consultant to help us out with our calling. He gave us a long 2 hour talk before we actually started our shifts. But the shifts were organized much differently than normal. It was a regular four hour shift, but we had been split into 3 groups. One group at a time, we all went into a conference room and spent an hour and twenty minutes listening to the other callers and critiquing them. As much as you might think me dumb for saying this, it was actually quite fun! It’s interesting listening to the way other people structure their calls and making adjustments because of it. It apparently really helped me out, because once I started calling, the first two people I talked to made pledges. After those two pledges, it put me in the number one slot. I would have been the number one caller out of the entire group if not for a guy named Chris. Backstory: we don’t have enough callers so the administrators in charge of the phonathon decided to give bonuses to people who got people they knew to apply for positions. I was talking to Chris earlier that week and talked him in to applying. Well, the first two people Chris talked to made pledges, just like me, but his were a little different. One of the two people he talked to pledged $1200! That’s the highest pledge yet, and that one pledge is greater than the total pledges of any one caller to date. Also, since he only talked to two people the entire day, and both made pledges, it means he has a 100% return on his calls, and nobody else has that, the best to this point had been something like 32%. So, he’s now in the first position. Grrr… My downfall is of my own doing! Oh fate, can you not give me a break! ^_^ Yeah, it was a good day at work. Being the number two caller is not bad at all. I like it. The rest of Saturday went as planned with Anime club later that evening and all. It was good.

Sunday
All right, Sunday is probably the most interesting out of the weekend, but all at the same time it’s not. Here’s how it goes. I was up ‘til about 4:00 on Sunday morning because the network administrators got lazy and I have wireless access in my room (temporarily of course). So, I was taking advantage of that. So, I wasn’t really in the mood to get up at 9:00 to go to church. So, I slept in. I slept in ‘til about 1:30. It was nice! Unfortunately, lunch closes at 1:30 on Sundays, so I had to eat ramen in my room. Well, I didn’t even change out of my pajamas to do that, so I decided to keep going. I just never changed out of my pajamas all day and spent the entire day being a lazy ass. I spent most of the time in my bed watching television. Since I rearranged my room last weekend, I have been able to see my television from my bed. So wonderful! Yeah. I did nothing all day on Sunday. By far one of the best days I’ve had all semester. I can’t even do that kind of stuff at home. Heh heh! So, yeah, I was lazy all day Sunday. Saw a lot of good movie though! And I’m trying to catch up on Bleach. So, it was productive of a sort.

Well, that was my weekend. Great don’t you think?! I think so too! Very awesome! Best weekend yet. Unfortunately I don’t get more of those. I guess the whole thing with this one was that I dind’t make plans to try and do any of this. It sort of all just happened spontaneously. Maybe spontaneity isn’t as bad as I had assumed? I’m so scheduled even when it comes to my free time, I don’t really do very much spontaneous stuff. I’ll try fix that to an extent. After a weekend like I just had, it can only be for the better. I hope you all have a wonderful day and I’ll see ya ‘round TheO! Sayonara!
