the Fangirl Oath
One of my friends and I wrote this on a boring afternoon. It's derived from the Hippocratic Oath, slightly abridged and reworded and such. Brought to you, as always, by the Ketchup Advisory Board, and by Powdermilk Biscuits (with the usual apologies).

I swear by Nobuhiro Watsuki, Rumiko Takahashi, Nanae Chrono, and I take to witness all the manga artists and bishounen, to keep according to my ability and my judgement the following oath:

To consider dear to me they who showed me this art; to live in common with them and, if necessary, to share my anime with them; to look upon their manga as my own, to share with them this art without fee or written promise; to impart to my friends and the friends of my friends who have taught me and others who have dedicated themselves and have a greed to the rules of the profession, but to these alone, the precepts and instruction. I will prescribe anime for the good of others according to my ability and judgement, and never to anger anyone. To please no one I will not prescribe a bad dub, or give advice that will cause the watching of one. Nor will I give a fangirl unwanted bad thoughts about her favorite character. But I will preserve the purity of my life and my art. I will not recommend anime I have not seen, but leave that to those who have seen it. Every anime I recommend will be for the good of others, keeping myself from all intentional ill-doing. If I keep this oath faithfully, may I enjoy life and practice my art, respected by all fans and in all times, but if I swerve from it for violate it, may the reverse be my lot.

Now hold up your right hand, place your left hand on this stack of Rurouni Kenshin DVDs...
